tell that to all the guys who lived in Dallas when they closed the base. A good commuter policy is worth your effort too. In this industry EVERYONE will commute sooner or later.

And not one Atlanta local will be forced to commute. There are already plenty of commuters based in Atlanta who can keep chasing the money if they want to. Life is full of choices. If you don't want to uproot your family, fine, bid an airplane in Atlanta you can hold. If you are truly too junior to hold anything in Atlanta, then commuting may be a necessary evil, but very few pilots will fall into that category. Very few. This isn't even worth a response.... perfectly illustrates how far your head is in the sand, even in regards to former South guys. (re: DFW...)

The statement in the latest FOM is the same one we have always had for the south concerning commutes. It is not however a flight ops policy. It is a contractual right that is written in the contract.

The commuter policy at NWA while better then Delta's was a flight ops policy and could be revoked on any whim of management. The fact it was not contractual and not in the NWA contract is one reason we were not able to bring it over with the merger.

Just like an overly generous commuting policy, or overly generous sick leave that encourages abuse, or overly generous LTD benefits that went on forever (in the old days)! All of that stuff costs non-commuting honest pilots a lot of money in the long run.

If you didn't get the word, today is "it's all about me Saturday". ;)

Exactly my thoughts! This "move to where you are based" idea works great in theory until, Dallas happens....then what?
Pineapple guy......careful what you say...might turn the commuting gods against you:cool:

This is exactly why we shouldn't have to spend a dime of negotiating on it. The company is gonna get hosed with guys getting stuck...

The flippant attitude reminds me of some of the DALPA incumbents over on the ALPA board. Not willing to spend time or look for ways to improve policy, but rather, spend most time telling guys to suck it up and be happy with status quo (while secretly negotiating more net losses for the pilot group).

Chente 12-12-2009 11:24 AM

Pineapple:
And what's with labeling non-commuters "honest"? Seriously man? Are you somehow implying commuters are dishonest? May be a stretch on my part but that is a pretty ignorant statement and I don't really understand where you are trying to go with that.
