So what happned to the SOC being granted on the 16th??
|
I pity our friends doing the Song runs today.
And flying in ATL, it's not the fog of earlier this week but it's rain and strong winds and low enough vis to make the cable news... "look at Atlanta, the weather is really bad, just as bad as the recent AE is for widebody positions... On the otherhand look at Minnesota where temperatures have climbed into the high 50s, the new normal with weather in that one state. Chicago, still frozen and so miserable Oprah is leaving. Move east and you can see the permanent warming trends in DTW and NYC but boy temperature are near arctic norms but with heavy high snow falls in Cleveland." wow. so informed. |

Our stock price popped for several reasons. The biggest is that DAL was added to the DOW last Friday, so all the index funds bought it. Last week was "investor day" for a whole bunch of airline analysts, and all the airlines told a similar story. Revenue is improving, corporate revenue is showing signs of life, and while nobody is predicting the future they are all cautiously optimistic about next year and a return to slight profitability. Delta did a nice job differentiating itself from its peers at two of the conferences, showing a core business that's performing better than its competitors using a whole bunch of different metrics. Lastly, oil was down below $70.
I wouldn't read too much into leaks on the JAL deal. Much of it is semi-public negotiating influenced by a wide variety of interests.;) The Japanese media is more than capable of acting just like American media.... I agree with you on these points. My assertion was two-fold. Like your last point, I think they are using the press to put pressure on both DAL and AMR to put forth a "best offer" by playing the sides. The other assertion was the Street is forward looking. Typically the airlines tend to recover together. As a result, their stock prices rise in line with certain exceptions. However, ours has popped while AMR has stayed flat the past couple of weeks. Some of that is due to us being listed on the DOW but I also think the market makers could be getting inside intel and are positioning themselves for the award. Just a thought though. |

Question for MSP DC9B guys...I'm trying to get up there on the 88, and I'm wondering what you're hearing as far as relatively senior DC9 FOs using a VD to displace into a higher-paying MSP position, and not creating many MDs at the bottom of the category, making the 88B more senior than one would have thought.
Anecdotally, what are you guys hearing? Bring back the baby with the splif that was some funny shizzle.:) |

Ferd,
Isn't it a new category? If so just use an AE. Put whatever percentage you want to hold it at. Did you say A320 A or B? Put in a percentage for both. The SLC 320B may go fairly junior, so you can use a VD, but back it up with an AE. And I believe AEs and VDs go at about the same time, but both go before MDs. That makes even better since, thanks. My initial reaction was to just stand firm (senior msp 755 fo) and see where the dust settles. Then I started thinking "creative", always gets me introuble:D. Going to SLC would, of course, be a paycut but not a big one.....don't know, after another night's sleep I'm thinking of just staying put. Indecision IS the key to flexibility, Ferd |

SLC is junior if you look at what it takes to get into the base. The M88B category has guys in 98th percentile. However, if you look at the block holders, it becomes senior very quickly and very few people leave which means slow movement up any list. You can get there if you want to be on reserve, but moving up to good schedules can take a long time. It is also not the most commuter friendly base with all the RJ's doing most of the west coast flying and lots of early morning trips. The 320 might have more commutable stuff than the 88 does, but we'll see.
Basically, it's junior if you want to be on reserve, senior if you want good schedules, great if you live here, and an RJ nightmare if your going to commute from anywhere other than LAX. Yeah I guess you guys are right. I stand corrected. I just look at it in terms of GETTING IN and how difficult it is. More so because I am currently on the 88 in NYC and there is no way I am getting displaced off of this bad boy, and it seems highly unlikely that I would be able to hold SLC unless there was some serious growth out there. Wishing for it but I find it highly unlikely. |
