its going to happen in either of 2 ways, most guys bid it because they live in base and figure why not a slight pay bump and better trips. This will Cause the MSP DC9 category to go junior (or make DTW go more junior as DTW dc9 guys shift to MSP)

OR

Guys stay put not wanting to get the lock figuring its not worth the training time and slight pay raise thus causing the MSP 88 category to go junior.

This whole bid has major WHAT IFS and there will be alot of unforeseen ripple effects i'm sure.

There is a fairly large pay raise for any MSP FOs wanting to go to the MD88 as a Captain. I bet a lot of them flew DC9s too, which would make their transition easier. I fly the MD88, and I like it. It has FMS and is quiet. I hear the MD90 is even nicer.

Bill,
That makes even better since, thanks. My initial reaction was to just stand firm (senior msp 755 fo) and see where the dust settles. Then I started thinking "creative", always gets me introuble:D. Going to SLC would, of course, be a paycut but not a big one.....don't know, after another night's sleep I'm thinking of just staying put.

Indecision IS the key to flexibility,

With a 4% raise Jan 1st, the slight pay cut may equal out. Seniority does have it's advantages, though, and you will have to see how your commute from PHX to MSP looks compared to SLC. Did you say you flew the airbus before? How did you like it?

This need to be addressed NOW. The company's schedulers should NOT be permitted to make a judgment call to abrogate OUR seniority. Why have we let this continue for so long???

Because the contract allows it?

BTW, I'm not saying the New Reserve system isn't being followed, I'm saying it's designed to ensure maximum utilization. Anything that stands in the way is engineered out, right from the word "go".

i wasnt really talking about the left seat, I should have clarified a little better. I was talking about MSP DC9FO's bidding MSPM88FO.

I just want to see the official news it's signed because if it is delayed we all have to wait longer to see the results of this dang bid that has us all losing sleep at night.

You can sleep its done, besides would it really matter if it was slightly delayed...they would just move the date a little further down. Bid what you want and want what you bid.

From my personal experience on reserve the past 2 years at DAL-S, I don't think there's really any evil going on. By the time they sort us by days available, assign a few SCs, eliminate the ones not legal (30/7, SAQ/Theater Qual, etc) there' not much room for judgment.

Just because everyone's out to get you is no reason to be paranoid.

2) You will often get thiiiiiis close to the reserve guarantee. Sometimes you'll hit 67 hours, and, perversely, you'll get a trip that takes you to 70:06 flying rubber dog sh** to Hong-Kong, while someone junior to you will chill out at home.
3) You will either be flying, or on Short Call. Long Call is a sort of legend passed around by the older crews, to the amazement of current crews.

I had four days of reserve over Thanksgiving - I sat long call for the first three (so, yes, I was home for t-day) then got called out for a turn on my last day. So, long call is rare but not unheard of. But, that turn put me at, you guess it, 68 hours and some change for the month.

This month I have flown 75+ hours in three trips without sitting a day of short or long call. None of the trips in open time for the rest of the month can be assigned to me (without a yellow slip) since they will all put me over ALV. I see some short call in my future, but that's ok, there just isn't much they can use me for. That is one aspect of our reserve rules that I do like.

How about A330 FOs or 755 FOs based in MSP? That would be a nice pay raise to go to the MD88/90 Capt seat. If they flew the DC9 in their past too, it wouldn't be as hard. DC9 Captains would also probably like to bid it, since it is a nicer DC9 with gadgets, and different layovers. There is no way I could hold Capt at this point, but I would like to eventually.

SOC was signed on the 16th with an effective date towards the end of the month.

FWIW, words around the school house is short by "a lot" for summer IF plans go as they are thinking.

GUM possible mid next year to 2011.

SOC was signed on the 16th and will be effective one of the last few days of the month.
