Years ago I flew the nine as a F/O. I flew the MD-90, and occaisonally an 88 as a Captain. I think the 9 is more "fun to fly" than either the 88 or 90. However depending on the flight length the newer automation make the job easier.

Having said that McDonnell Douglas and/or DAL cheaped out on the FMS and autopilot system. Those systems on a Boeing 757 or 767 are significantly better (IMHO).

Not sure about the answer to your first question but I don't think there is a freeze with reinstatement. I'd call the union to double check though.

As far as the second question, because of the freeze, the only way a VD could be awarded a bid is to a new or re-established category during his period of freeze. There is one other way. If you have a freeze that expires after the bid closes but before conversions involving that bid, then you can be awarded a position on the bid. This last sentence I'm recalling from memory and there may be some nuance that I've missed but I believe it to be correct.

I wouldn't think it would follow you could get an award after a VD, but the little grid they put out with the consolidated AE material indicated YES for eligible for award during freeze after VD..(??). confusing...at least to me.

Thinking about it, I should have added a couple more ways to get an AE. 1. You can stay on the same aircraft but move to a different base. 2. If you are on a freeze as an FO then you could get an AE to a captain position.

I've been here 21 years and a lot of this stuff still confuses me!:) As Ferd said "I got a great memory.......it's just short!":eek:

The best thing to read is Sec. 22 of the contract. It has a category freeze section.

Actually just read through it all, and while I couldn't find the part in the contract, the Q & A seems to address it:

Q-9. What freeze applies if reinstated to a previously held category?
A-9. If you were under a freeze when displaced, that ‘clock’ continues to run and will apply
when reinstated. For example, a MSP320B pilot is under a freeze that started February 1, 2009.
That freeze will expire on January 31, 2011. In June 2009, the pilot is displaced to MSPDC9B.
If reinstated as part of the September 2009 AE, the pilot would return to the MSP320B with a
freeze through January 31, 2011. If you were not under a freeze when displaced, and are
returned to the position as a result of your reinstatement rights, no freeze will apply.

Tried but no better result. Still get 1 step away from checking my schedule and then a page full of "SimpleAccelerator" plus a bunch of numbers..... What am I doing wrong? The light blue top bar shows up but when I select "current schedule" it gets all screwed up, except for the top blue bar...

Sorry you and others had to endure furloughs.

With that guy or any like him, I would have sicked out/gotten off the trip. Your 'mental distraction' would have made a safe operation difficult.
