Since that time some, many have been looking over their shoulder for unexpected news and take necessary steps in advance to avoid another disaster. Though there's not much we as a group could do to scuttle a merger deal we can prepare should the board and stakeholders decide to sell. Collectively we'd hate to be caught surprised again, especially if there is something we could do in advance to affect the outcome. I think you will agree that whether we finalize JAL or AMR does, you guys are the next target for AMR, DAL or LUV. It just makes too much sense. I agree that you have a great little niche and most I know that fly there are totally content with it. I would prefer to see us just buy jets and compete on the west coast, but that does not appear to be the plan. Our company does not want to dilute the market. In the end I beleive that whether we or one of the other two guys goes after AS, there will be more competition on said routes regardless of what happens. |

Lets see, with the prospect of another 1,500 pilots senior to me doing flying we really should have been doing ourselves since the purchase of Western, let me be the first to wish American luck.
We'd have to (gasp) grow internally to compete. My best wishes to AA and the fTWA crowd that's been punished for nearly a decade; this one will be a slaughter for someone. |

Japan Airlines to get $7.6 bln financial aid
A turnaround fund backed by the Japanese government plans to offer 700 billion yen ($7.6 billion) in investment and loans to Japan Airlines in a bailout of the ailing carrier, Kyodo news said. The turnaround fund, called the Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp of Japan (ETIC), plans to offer about 300 billion yen in capital and establish a 400 billion yen credit line, Kyodo said, without citing sources. The ETIC will ask financial institutions to forgive about 300 billion yen in debt, Kyodo said.

The snow never quite makes it to the airport.
But this is a bad omen for March, when we always get a nasty ice storm after a season like this. ACL65 - sure is a lot of talk about 737 flying, but no pilots on the airplane to do rumored flying. So why they kicking such a large pilot of pilots off the thing (by not filling ER slots BTW) ? As is always the case, they are out of reserves in ATL this weekend again. Figured since you were close to the action, you might have a read on this situation. Well, either that or now to keep one step ahead of Southwest's sudden BFOTO to use VNAV (gasp) we are now using pilot-less drone 737's on all but the really crappy trips to South America. That's the only thing that makes sense based on what appears to be senseless displacements from Crew Resources. |

I'm curious, if it came to the point of choosing one or the other, do you think Alaska pilots would rather go with AA or DAL? Just wondering what the general feel is among the group. Denny |
