Well mine just did. Ferd, I asked one of the girls (Anna) if she knew you but, alas she said no. Must have been a long time since you were at Godfathers. Of course, she's only been there 6 months. :D Either that or you have them well trained. Happy hour was great. So good we didn't make it Johnny's. After flying 13+ hours, I do not expect Delta management to make a formal announcement until Thursday. After all, the just put in a half day of work, flew 13+ hours, then had to get to downtown Tokyo to announce the JAL/DAL deal, if you can believe the media. A Guam rumor of up to 300 pilots and 21 737's does concern me. If Guam is a new opportunity to expand and fight for market share into China from the closest US soil, is one thing, but if is due to loss of wide body flying south and west of NRT, the every DAL pilot should be concerned. Until the DAL MEC conveys to ALL of us what the plan is, I am cautious about what to expect. Narita is no Frankfurt. The 5th freedom rights allowed NWA to be the 3rd largest "Japanese" carrier in Japan after JAL and ANA. This "good corporate deal" might not be so good for pilots. We shall all see. Lurked long enough. Also it is not a Billion in cash. It is about 300 million or so in cash. That number has probably gone up a little, but it was not a straight cash deal. As for GUM, 21 73N's would be great, but marketing needs to commit for there to be a base there. The need to commit for at least 18 months. Until then we are looking at long 73N trips. If I had to guess, they would probably be LAX crews since there is a direct flight from LA to GUM. Just a guess though. |

I'm very skeptical, if not doubtful that any kind of buyout or merger is forthcoming. Since the '80's I've heard of countless rumors from many sources of an imminent merger deal or buyout next 'Thursday' by 'xyz' only to discover that the deal is with another code sharing partner. At this point in my career I would be happy to ride off into the sunset as an independent carrier. I see no positive benefit merging with anybody, personally speaking. Simple question. Why then did your Association just put together a merger committee? |

Since that time some, many have been looking over their shoulder for unexpected news and take necessary steps in advance to avoid another disaster. Though there's not much we as a group could do to scuttle a merger deal we can prepare should the board and stakeholders decide to sell. Collectively we'd hate to be caught surprised again, especially if there is something we could do in advance to affect the outcome. |

FWIW, there are 1200 73N pilots at DAL prior to the AE. FTB, I wasn't talking about Franks comment per se - as a matter of fact I agree with Frank, I also wish we did not have fences. Point is, we do, so I would encourage guys not to get hung up on it . Lets move and think forward. Scoop :) |
