Hey gang, no rumors our inside info to add, just a couple questions for the South guys/gals.
Are golden days (reserve) treated like Xdays for greenslip flying, i.e. single pay on top of reserve guarantee, or do you get a premium? My wife is due in March. Any chance the company will pay out my vacation while I take fmla or personal leave? I know its a stretch... For all you South guys/gals coming "up north," glad to have you, welcome to Minneesnowta. I go on FMLA for a child birth later this month. Any vacation you have can be used prior to going on unpaid FMLA. They will ask you this when you apply for the FMLA. You can also use any of your Bank to offset the personal leave. |
Denny and Dal4ever, thanks for the info, much appreciated.
Dal4ever, congrats! |

By proclamation this 2nd day of January 2010 ROLL TIDE As we got closer to push he must have wondered why his FO was sitting over there silently in the fetal position. I just turned it off after Auburn fumbled the kick off and just spent the last 10 minutes prior to push visibly angry. The Captain must have been scratching his head. In all honesty, I could've cared less, the AE was out and I had survived, it made that game easy to handle. |

Just non-rev'd from PHL to ATL on an MD. Before pushback, the Capt introduced himself and the F/O using the boarding door's PA phone. He then gave all of us his background of flying F-14, then F-18's. He said it again just in case nobody heard it the first time. Then as he thanked us all for being here, he said: "neither me or my copilot have our laptops in the cockpit, so we'll just be landing in Atlanta, not over-flying it by 100 miles." There was a little nervous laughter, but mostly just puzzled looks.
Am I the only one that thinks that was a stupid thing to say? Carl ....The only people who like fighter pilots are little kids and other fighter pilots..... |

The company has to use your vacation first for FMLA. Please note that you have twelve months to use your twelve weeks of FMLA (write that down). Depending on when the child is born, and how senior you are, you may want to delay until a time of your liking... CPO's can be a little useless when it comes to FMLA, and not understand the law, and the full flexibility that you enjoy. I spoke to one guy who's CP tried to talk him out of a very important operation during a certain time of the year. There is a lady that runs this stuff, who understands the law better than a CPO. Go through Crew Resources to get her number. Check your PM. Good luck. |

Carl... this person is famous. You are 100% correct. FOs who've experienced these PAs, which happen every leg from what I know, say it goes over very poorly and say they cringe when they hear the 1 passenger out of 142 who says "that was funny!" They say you can just feel the chest expand from the cockpit. But obviously FOs just have to live with it and then vent to each other after the trip. I've gotten 3 phone calls about this in recent months and I'm sending a copy of your post to them.
There are others who make a "we don't have our laptops out" joke and even one who added "we know the difference between a taxiway and a runway" joke but I think its safe to say there are 10,400 pilots in this airline currently flying the line who know how absolutely stupid these jokes are. Having a clue overfly MSP right after another another lands on M: Priceless. The one stupid passenger feeling obligated to joke about laptops: Useless. Pilots feeling obligated to provide a pedigree on their intial PA: Tasteless. Pilots making sure passengers don't forget embarassing company events: Clueless. |

I flew a C-130 cargo plane full of rubber dog doodie out of Hong Kong. (Well I am not sure what was in the back, but...it was Kai Tek airport.) I also knew that "Maverick" was sitting the ready 5 in the Gulf getting a sunburn, and I was drinking singapore Slings at the Raffles. Who had the better gig again? |
