That's funny. I actually lived Maverick's nightmare when I was in the Navy. I flew a C-130 cargo plane full of rubber dog doodie out of Hong Kong. (Well I am not sure what was in the back, but...it was Kai Tek airport.) I also knew that "Maverick" was sitting the ready 5 in the Gulf getting a sunburn, and I was drinking singapore Slings at the Raffles. Who had the better gig again?

Just non-rev'd from PHL to ATL on an MD. Before pushback, the Capt introduced himself and the F/O using the boarding door's PA phone. He then gave all of us his background of flying F-14, then F-18's. He said it again just in case nobody heard it the first time. Then as he thanked us all for being here, he said: "neither me or my copilot have our laptops in the cockpit, so we'll just be landing in Atlanta, not over-flying it by 100 miles." There was a little nervous laughter, but mostly just puzzled looks.
Am I the only one that thinks that was a stupid thing to say? Carl |

Am I the only one that thinks that was a stupid thing to say? Carl Sounds like this guy has what my GF calls "SPS"... A call to pro-stands is probably in order. Stroking the ego by telling the pax how wonderful you are in your own mind is probably just barely on the fringe, but reminding the pax of something the company would most certainly like them to forget is over the line. My guess is pro-stands has already heard enough about this guy. Nu |

Not sure, but why do you feel this guy worthy of a call to Pro Standards? His style might be a little obnoxious, but I don;t think it is against the rules anywhere. Actually I think I commuted with this guy not too long ago.. or at least a guy with the same style. Anyway, there was scattered laughter in the cabin, and most people were a bit amused by the computer comment. I don't care one way or the other, but I don;t think this is a case for Pro Standards..

Am I the only one that thinks that was a stupid thing to say? Carl I think a call to pro standards is def in order. I can't imagine how the guy is like to fly with... prob one of those guys that doesnt say much other than just sitting there basking in his own awesomeness. Flew with a guy a few weeks ago that would say on the PA "and we don't have our laptops with us" right after I walked right by all the pax with my laptop case on top of my overnight bag. I mentioned it to him and he goes "well it makes them feel better." Durrrr. I believe this sums up Captain America and his funny PA nicely: http://mimg.ugo.com/200910/11727/facepalm.jpg |

Wow I'm slow on the trigger on posting. The only reason I consider it somewhat of an issue is because it's...well... unprofessional to do a PA directly poking at a something like the whole laptop deal. |
I'm with you, Clamp. Maybe a talk with a Pro Stans guy will keep him out of the Chief Pilot's office down the road. This kind of stuff is an embarrassment to all of us. It's Carl's call, though.
