Airline Pilot Central Forums - Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?

I know my brother and his wife who are public "servants" have amassed almost a million in cash in the bank while working overseas the last five years. They get housing and get reimbursed for their housing. They get paid for a car and reimbursed for the one they have, they get every bill paid for except internet. It is a great deal for the sacrifice they are making. When they return to the states they will buy a house of my dreams with cash. Add to it their pensions are full.
Many of these bennies will be attacked and terminated as the private sector folks reach a breaking point. We are footing the bill. The ones that will have to stay are the ones for the military. They need to keep and improve those if they want men and women to fight for and die for this country.

I'm not talking about military people. Heck I was one. The level of compensation for officers is about right while enlisted troops are still vastly underpaid. They, however, go into the job knowing what's what and can't influence their pay one iota. The average run of the mill bureaucrat member of the Public Employees Union is another story. That discussion is fodder for another thread, though.

In light of the demise of JAL, cuting one-third of their people and if we get the deal done, to offer company wide preferential hiring for any of the displaced workers at JAL. I think this offer would aid the folks at JAL as well as aide our chances of getting a deal in place. Just my .03 worth...

December airline yields were down 1.9%

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The decline in U.S. airline yields slowed further in December, culminating in the smallest year-over-year decline for the 2009, the Air Transport Association said Tuesday. Yields, or the average price a passenger pays to fly one mile, declined 1.9% in December, compared to a 4.6% decline in November. The erosion in yields peaked in June with a nearly 19% drop as business travel dried up in the wake of the recession, causing operators to slash ticket prices to attract more budget-conscious vacationers. The industry is widely projected to recover in 2010 as business people trickle back. For all of 2009, yields came in 11.8% below those in 2008.

Question about vacation. In the first round I was awarded my first choice of the 2nd 2 weeks of sept(12-25). but next I had the 1st 2 weeks of may. Those were not awarded(even though still avail) so I have to bid in round 2 for my last 2 weeks. Now to complicate things further, due to the screw up with the freezes I am being reinstated to my previous position. Will I have to rebid (and if so, when) all of my vacation in my new position? Thanks.

I agree, I have not been impressed with what I have seen with Athena. Of course I do not see everything. :eek:

Delta only awards you one vacation per round of bidding. You can't be awarded two different weeks. You can bid a 2 or 3 week block but it has to be together. The reason for this is it gives junior pilots a chance at a decent week of vacation on their primary since it will trump the secondary and beyond of a senior guy. The same thing goes for move up vacation awards. If you are trying to move your primary week it is worked first and you would get a week even if a senior pilot had requested a move up with his secondary week.
We could change it to award all the weeks at once but if you are junior pilot plan on every week of your vacation being in late Jan and Feb.
