You guys keep ascribing this to Sec Trans. Buzz, correct me if I'm wrong, but a cabinet secretary doesn't wipe his butt without the POTUS's ok. Every decision made by the Executive Branch comes from that big white mansion behind the iron curt.. I mean fence. Whether it is Neo himself or Don Emanuel, LaHood ain't doing this on his own.

Correct you are. But the administration has basically let LaHood off the leash, and this slot swap is not really a front burner issue (yet). Toyota, high speed rail, "distracted driving", and of course the ma$$ive infrastructure expenditures are what he gets out of bed in the morning for. I just think that his inexperience coupled with a mandate to "do whatever it takes" to get the job done has created a monster. It will take a separate branch of the government (judicial) to put the brakes on this runaway train. My guess is this administration would want to avoid an embarrassing public smack down from Justice on this issue. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail.

I think in this instance, LaHood and the hapless DOJ are operating on behalf of SWA inside a government that is decidedly and proudly "boot on the throad" anti-business.

I think HND access is a lost cause. But I think we win a court battle on the slot swap and I think we'll have a lot of friends in our corner because if we lose, then guess what happens to CAL/UAL's EWR hub on their next move? Or AMR/JB swap? I mean what % of flights out of EWR belong to CAL and compare that to what we're asking for in LGA and LCC in DCA?
