MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Labor is providing over $2.6 million in grants to help the 613 Northwest Airlines workers who lost their jobs in Eagan due to the merger with Delta Air Lines Inc. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis says in a statement Wednesday that workers who lose jobs through no fault of their own deserve training and employment services. The grant was awarded to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development and will be operated by Dakota-Scott Workforce Services. The money will give laid-off workers access to services including basic skills training and individual career counseling. The Department of Labor says the funds are made available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. |
New must be in ATL tonight, we were being vectored behind a 9 for a visual to 9R and we hit the 9s wake and got our butts handed to us. If I wasn't so big I would curled up in the fetal position. The only person I know that could kick 135 peoples butts without even knowing it is New.
On that note saw my first 753 in the ATL. |

I don't know if this has been posted, but, my thoughts and prayers are with this guy. And we need to assist the family if needed. Also, we all should note, even when we are having a great time we should be aware that it all could end in one punch.... Man, 23, charged in assault; victim is on life support | StarTribune.com

The bottom line is we are either regulated or not. I can't believe you have any doubt. We are highly regulated. By the administration, by Congress, by the NMB and by the courts. Airlines are public utilities. Delta can sue the DOT if they want, but Delta will lose. Sorry. |

That said, it is always a crap shoot when you have to put your fate in a judge/arbitrator/or whatever. You don't know how it will end, or at least I sure don't. |
Pure and Simple!!!!!
Everything is regulated in this industry except fares!!!!!
The AMERICAN PUBLIC HAS EXACTLY THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY AND SYSTEM THEY ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR!!! So I say ENJOY! Mean time when they get pi**ed enough I hope the RIGHT and left side of this government will seek to either regulate or deregulate! |

Well, they are trying to regulate that now too....."April 13 (Bloomberg) -- Two Democratic U.S. senators introduced legislation that would ban airlines from charging fees for bags carried aboard planes one week after Spirit Airlines Inc. became the first carrier to announce a charge." |

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I don't think we are deregulated. I also don't think we are completely regulated. We are in no-man's land. That is one reason why the entire industry is in shambles. Even SWA is feeling the pain.

You don't know how it will end, or at least I sure don't. The other thing to consider if we "pushback" is: 1) We might be able to make a deal rather than go to court. 2) If this goes unchecked, the next thing the DOT will do is start confiscating slots outright in the name of "competition". This is barely one step away from where they are now. Nu |
