Even easier. Disable the GPS in the FMS (it will stop automatically updating the ACARS and FMS time automatically), select DME/DME as primary, place the #3 VHF onto a non AIRINC freq. (so nothing is updated in RES/SABRE/PARS), modify the system time as required, follow company procedures, move off the gate and away from cameras, place #3 VHF back to the primary AIRINC freq. ( this will update RES/SABRE//PARS but you'll be away from the cameras and ACARS periodically go NO COM anyways) and finally enable that GPS receiver before you fly that RNAV departure.
I think this is how other airlines do it, not that I know from personal experience. http://www.startrip.tv/images/2008/1...ll_ferrell.jpg |

According to some LCAs I flew with, this will eventually be the policy. The OUT time will be de-coupled from the beacon and be generated when the main cabin doors are all closed and the brake is released. IN time will be the parking brake set and a main cabin door opened.
Can we just have a stupid switch that says "IN / OUT" on it?

Quite true. I want to be paid from when the door closes and we need to do that, but our pay needs to be redefined to state door closed and brakes released, not block out. It is a slight change but it will allow us to be on the clock and still blocked in to help with absolute time on parts, the three hour rule and many other time critical issue like the ones you have stated. How about a e-mail to your new reps. :D |
+1!.............

If we are worried about some ground personnel becoming desensitized to a flashing beacon, we should be more worried about a Captain who is going to be pressed to releasing the brakes (before it is safe to do so) once that door closes.

The new category list is up for December to reflect the May AE. (Along with the new seniority numbers.)

I have a quick question. I'm scheduled to convert on Dec 1st, but scheduled to train in December. How can I convert by December 1st if my training won't start until December? Shouldn't I have a October or November training date?

Turning a light on is a lot different than releasing the brakes when it's not safe to do so. Maybe because I've been here longer than you, but I don't think there's a single captain I've flown with that would do that.
Another not-so-obvious strategy is to do the "Before Start" PM flow after the doors are closed. I wouldn't know anything about this one either as I'm always on-time. |

If you hold the toe brakes, release the parking brake as soon as the cabin door closes, then reset it all the while holding the toe brakes, you are now on the clock with the brakes set and no safety issues. I'm just a first officer though so this is just my "theory." I don't know if this would actually work as I've never been able to try it.

You are correct about the brake thing. It goes off the parking brake... a quick recycle while holding the brakes isn't noticable and "tada" you're on the clock. Of course I never did that in my previous 4-stripe life ever. :D newK doesn't have to do anything to block out. He winks at the hot gate agent and flexes his butt cheeks and everything happens. The 3-hour rule doesn't apply to newK. Everyone knows he's always first in line for takeoff and has never be subject to a ground stop. |
