I've not laid over at the hotel that we use now. But, when we stayed down the beach, it was nice. The water and beach was perfect - I don't think the beach right in front of the current hotel was so nice, further north had nicer beaches. Good places to eat both on the beach and a few blocks inland. As you might expect, pricier on the beach but not outlandish.

Whenever Neo speaks of the future and transportation it's always "high speed rail". Never does he mention air travel in a positive light. His most recent speech on the economy is an example. His green vision of utopia doesn't include anything with an engine that uses fossil fuels.

You know how the TSA allows advertisements on the bottom of the plastic screening bins.... Well I noticed in the TSA LINE last week the ad was "Travel with us, & KEEP YOUR SHOES ON!" AMTRAK.com.

I personally think that ad is bull for many many reasons!

Must say, good move on the MEC's part in initiating this poll.

I'm guessing that you have 30-hour layover there.

It's a major pain to take the tour of Jerusalem/Bethlehem, but it's a great tour, whether you're religious or not. It's an all day affair: pickup at the hotel in the early morning, and you're not back until 5pm or so. Then pickup for the airport is at 10 or 11 pm. That's kind of painful--

I've seen guys just jump on a bus and go to Jerusalem themselves; they've said you can do that in 4 or 5 hours, including the bus ride.

If you're staying local, check out Jaffa. Good sightseeing, and some good places to eat. Dr. Shakshuka (near the clock tower; make a left, it's on the left) is a good place to have lunch. There are also several cafes in the area. none of them have either impressed or disgusted me--

Head inland from the hotel, and you'll find the Hacarmel Market. That's a pretty interesting walk, and there are a number of places to eat, especially on the other side of the market. I like a shwarma place that's out the other side, then left on Ben Yahuda (about a block down, on the left, on the corner).

Another option is to head north, up the beach. Great beaches, lots of cafes. They continue as far as the Old Port, which has a lot going on, especially on weekends. This area (from abeam the Sheraton to the Old Port) is generally more tourist-friendly than the previous places I've mentioned.

Have fun!

Okay, tag this under: DFW, toll booth, full speed, airborne, car...

Car Goes Airborne at DFW Toll Booth

Just getting the day started off right with a good old fashioned car crash.

So I guess transcontinental train service in this country is more lax on security than transcontinental air service.

Good to know.
