They notice this type of thing, and if the JS is booked like this on the day of travel it is a NO, NO! Normally it is just an oversight. I have booked one and then gotten kicked off the VRU while trying to cancel the other one. Everyone I know is very diligent on this matter.

With computer booking, the visibility is a lot better.

If it were me, I would make that call and nip this in the bud.

Very wise.

We can all justify our actions when we want to, but the bottom line is, men of integrity don't intentionally cheat the company, or their fellow pilots. Call me a boy scout, that's OK. But you can't argue the facts.

J29, I'm smiling as I write this, so picture me smiling. :D

The classic interview question "so, you're down at the bar, you're Captain is having a beer, its 8 hours and 1 min till the van, what do you do?"

Okay, scrap that. Now, interview question "so, its 1 min to push, the ramp crew is ready and waiting on you, the gate agent closed the door 6 min ago and the plane is fulll, flight attendants told you good bye 5 min ago, everyone is ready to go. Company policy, you don't get paid til cleared to push and the beacon turns on, you call ramp for push they say 'standby, it'll be 5 min'. Captain says, throw the beacon... what do you do?"

So funny, so many RJ's have ACARS now thats a legit question.

PG, I don't care if you're a Capt or FO, I'm going to ask as if you're an FO, do you throw the beacon if you're Captain asks you too? Do you read him the riot act, riot act and then throw it, or throw it? Just curious.

P.S. Sailing, don't kill me, I'm sure you're looking for a good hangin' tree for ole FTB (oak tree at a min btw), this is an exercise and conversation starter. I'm with ACL, go by the book and fight for changes in the contract... but then I do what the Captain says and pull a Pilate.

Now that I've thrown a grenade into an ammo dump, I'm going back to my movie, Valentine's Day.

The question I pose is, is the few bucks worth your job?

Also, fly a 757/767 where the lowly FO is taken out of the equation and the captain throws the switch. Just do not pull any CB's.

Following the FOM just makes life easy. I have to say that I have never seen an issue here at DAL. Guys do it the way they are told!

It seems to be what they hire. :D

Speaking of obeying, boy oh boy, I'm scanning an article about the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977. Huh, how else do you get a plane out of a Mexico but to pay the customs guys off?

FTB,

I freaking love that movie!!! Good one man. :p

I don't question our policy at DAL, and my CA's to date have not either. It's just that PG said the Compass guy's don't have integrity because they release the brake when the door is closed, then set it just to get the clock ticking.

My point was that, their contract is most likely different so how do they not have integrity?

Rats, I'll miss you, I'm 22 and 23 July. But, since I'd have to pay for my hotel room in MSP, karma clearly states I'll probably be in MSP.:D

See you in LA......I convert in Nov.

HA! I fly 20-30 hours a month and get paid 70. If I flew 95 hours a month, I'm still clueless. I never pay attention to when I'm "on the clock." Takes too much effort for FTB. :D

Just saying, its a good interview question, follow the Captian, follow the book, either way you answer it can be countered. Kind of like the whole alcohol question, no matter what you say I can argue you're wrong, all the way to saying "the alcohol you smelled in the morning at the van was really mouth wash..." thing. It'd be a great question, wouldn't it?

When all else fails, follow the FOM:

The Captain’s orders will receive prompt compliance from all crew members.
– Differences from written procedures or other instructions should be brought to
the Captain’s attention.
– If the order still stands, it is to be obeyed.

I think they're smiling, now just tell them you like Michael Bolton music and you're hired, again!
