Rocky,
You guys are starting to scare me. If I ever have to go to Virginia Avenue, I will be petrified. Ok, maybe that's too strong of a word. But, what are the differences in the training environment between the two? |

Whoops, I realized it about two seconds after I posted.
We'll let you try again, identify this plane (answer below): http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviatio.../3/0574355.jpg That is a former NW 747-400, after Newk got done with it. He went too fast, ripped the winglets off it and shrunk it. He got mad and ripped out the avionics while he was at it, prefers seat of the pants flying. They ended up selling it to Qantas. Once you go Newk you never go back. So NWA sent him to the only plane with the integrity to handle a Newk, the DC-9. its was early in the day to be doing Newk stuff but I couldn't resist. :D |

Well, tell the guys giving the briefings in the crew rooms to quit spewing dates. I always thought it was soon, but would have been floored to happen on the date predicted.

This forum makes me laugh. I had a CA who was fDAL, worked for NWA during his furlough, and now is back at DAL. I hope he doesn't mind me passing on his thoughts.
I got into a discussion about this thread and all of the whining going on here. He laughed and offerred some opinions as someone who's seen both operations. Liked Worldflight but preferred AWABs -- said AWABs gives you more flexibility. Definitely didn't like the rigid "this is my side of the cockpit, don't touch it" approach at NWA. Hates DAL training department and manuals. Hates Boeing and how a lot of the pilots at DAL (who don't know anything else) are Boeing champions. That's about all he had to say. Then, while on a layover, I ran into a previous CA and his FO (fNWA). We talked about a lot of the pros and cons. It was a very good conversation. Had the same type of discussion with some fNWA guys at MSP's food court. I have not seen the angered attitude on display here at APC in the fNWA pilots I've met in person. Maybe behind closed doors? But I don't think so. |

Even the admin assistants were mildly surprised there was no announcement, which they said was supposed to happen yesterday. Even so, completion is 'scheduled' for 2013...

But I don't think so. I don't think guys here are really angry. There may be some frustration, but remember it is a lot harder to communicate effectively via typing then in a face to face conversation with immediate feedback - both verbal and non-verbal. Another thing is that 95% of both fNW and fDAL Pilots do no even visit these board so any differences of opinion amongst the pilot groups are probably exaggerated on APC. Scoop |

Two things, I was in the crewroom last year and some MEC folks were there for informal Q&A, older guy walked up to the dalpa guy and they got to chatting and the dalpa guy asked "so, do you have any suggestions?" "Yes, sell the Airbuses." The dalpa guy said "that ain't happening." Then not long after that I heard a guy loudly proclaiming, for the world to hear, [deleted, not worth repeating] Shrug. Bring on the Bus, bring on the Boeings, hell bring on the Embraers and Bomardiers, Dash 8-400s, sure, bring em' all. ;) Airplanes = Jobs. |
