Sorry Carl, but that is some funny shizzle.

Would I leave DTW 320 B 75% off the VD? Can't see why that would go on?

Be very careful bidding a VD if you want to stay in DTW 320 if you can hold 75%. I'm not quite sure how it would work but, in my convoluted mind, there is a possibility you could get a VD even if you will be able to hold the 320 at 75% on the AE portion.

I suspect on this AE that there will be very few displacements (VD or MD) other than the SLC 767-->7er.

Thanks Denny. They are putting newhires on DTW 320 so I'm not sure I can work the VD angle. Nor am I sure I want to try that way. Seems like AE is the best way. If I can NOT get 75% anywhere I'd just as soon stay put.

Oh boy. You are getting into the PhD level of bidding with that question.
The short answer is no. For 99.9% of pilots - Your VD should always EXACTLY mirror your AE. (there are some rare exceptions to that rule that are also PhD level stuff)

The reason is just as Denny Crane stated. Be very careful with a VD different than your AE. On any bid with displacements, you could theoretically get a VD out of your category when you really would have preferred to stay. Remember on a VD you are volunteering to take the displacement of a more junior pilot.

(I agree with your second sentence though. Its highly unlikely there will be any displacements out of DTW 320 B on this bid)

I thought the M88 in MSP was going to ramp up over time? Was hoping that would be the other line holder position for junior pilots in lieu of NYC. I say this bid is a total wildcard for the bottom 300 or so. I fear the seniority and displacements in SLC will leave a dust cloud until the next batch of retirements.

I agree: it will be sporty. With such a wide number of categories offering such a small number of positions, and a real senior MD/AE in the middle... this is a difficult one to plan for.

Agree feel like taking the choke out and loading up a magnum round with #8 shot just to be safe... How is a guy supposed to bid without any seniority?

Answer: Shotgun

I've noticed lately that the 744 has become Delta's flagship aircraft in it's marketing products (the new commercials, print ads, etc.). I find this ironic because pre-merger, all we (PMDAL) heard was that the 744s were gone very shortly. Perhaps that was true when oil was artificially high.

Now we're hearing rumors that DAL is putting more 744s on the line. So it seems DAL has warmed up to the value of the 744.

Question:

Do you see a future 747 aircraft coming to DAL in the future? How long do you see the 744s lasting at DAL?

I'd love to hear some opinions from those who are good at "connecting the dots."

Most of the this has been addressed already, but I thought I'd throw this out... I think the 747 is showing up in the advertising just because it is such a distinctive and recognizable jet, and a darn photogenic one at that. Take your average passenger and ask him to ID any of the other jets and I'd bet that most of them wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 76/77/330, at least not a first glance. As good as they are, they just don't have a lot of visual appeal. Don't even get me started on the 380!
