Carl

US actually was because Northwest had the first US Mail contract way back when.

I think you are 97% correct.
Personally I do make choices based on aircraft, but hardly for the reasons WSJ suggests, or even yours.
My choices depends mainly of upgrade possibilities, but even then I select.
I would rather be in first on a 757 than a 767, conversely I would rather be in coach in a 767 than 757 (coach seats are wider).
When I look at the seat maps between A319/20 vs 737 I will take the A3xx if row 5 or exit is open, otherwise 737.
I will pick a plane with two cabins over one.
Obviously timing is the biggest issue, but with options to connect in any of (up to) 4 airports with little difference; options are open.

It is difficult to get too picky because this thread covers a variety of topics, many silly some serious. Yes even more boring than SEC football.

Exactly right alfa...which leads me to ask why you didn't respond to his post about "right wing extremists" which I was responding to, but chose to respond to me as if I was the one initiating the political rant? I was simply putting his erroneous post into context. If you have a problem with the terms of service, perhaps you should respond to him.
