BAH! Just reach up to the Air Conditioning Auto Shutoff Switch and flip to Override(or is is Auto?). Whatever position you normally have it in airborne. Then packy no turn offie.

Yep, I use that technique (usually only out on a taxiway and/or crossing a runway) as long as I know there's not anything behind me that might get blown around too much. As a rule of thumb, though, if you don't use enough thrust SE to trip the packs, you're not using enough thrust to blow anything over behind you.

Agreed. And some of our operating inefficiencies are ****ing even more money away.

Anyone want to take a gander at how much fuel it costs us on a daily basis to carry around an extra 10-20K of fuel on every international flight because we don't use re-release flight planning because FPS is not nimble or accurate enough to plan accordingly?

I'm guessing it negates all the APU and SE taxi combined and then some. Doh!

Also discussing with a LCA that FPS will never plan you over FL380 as a software limitation? Fact or fiction?

Or how much we spend on a daily basis buying hotel rooms in ATL for mis-connected passengers?

All of that pales in comparison to the money spent buying off people when we are oversold.

Delta is always #1 by far in DOT overbooking and denied boarding.

They must make money doing it because they don't seem to care.

Delta does not give cash to over sales. They give Delta dollars. A high percentage are never redeemed. The rest are used for ticket purchases. You can't use them on priceline ect.. so the tickets purchased tend to be higher cost. In the end the over sold Delta dollars handouts cost the company very little and direct additional sales back to Delta.
