Unless you're flying the CRI approach into JFK. Gotta LAVS that badboy. :)

Apparently years back an Aeroflot plane.. tired after the long flight from Russia ended up flying the CRI approach to 13L into JFK in the usual fun weather conditions. Taxiing in they keyed the mic and said (read this in heavy russian accent) "That approach is for *******t."

I remember some weird thing on the 88 for the approach... NATS HALF LAVS. Why does the 88 always require 4 extra steps? ftb?

We don't even do dive and drive here. VNAV, CANPA or bust.

True that. Haven't been into JFK lately but you are exactly right. BTW, I'm in ATL with like 6 hours to sleep before I head back west. What a frikkin day. Need to get some time here so I can hang out with the Boyz in the Hood.

Old story: A 727 was cleared up the Hudson, right turn to land on 13 at LGA. Had to go around and squawked that the approach was completely unsafe. Tower replied: "Most people use the other river." :p

Yet ironically, it is the only approach that does NOT have an RNAV RNP approach. If there was ever a setup that called for it... it is the CRI to the 13s.

Your ATC tax dollars hard at work.

Maybe when SWA starts flying there they will build one.

:D That's for you Carl!

I spent the formative years of my childhood watching the Canarsie approach from my familias domicile about 1 mile from the threshold of 13L, I have watched many variations on the theme, from 45 degree banks on the pivot turn,to a 707 screaming over the rooftops after getting a might bit low one night, I have flown it myself with the DC3,and the 727, for nostalgic reasons alone JFK is my favorite airport, and the VOR 13L/R my favorite approach, though in truth any approach to any grass strip in a Champ is a favorite too !

--------------

Jet Blue already has built the approach - flew it in the sim - piece of cake and I dont know why it isnt used by everyone.

Heh - I remember doing the CRI approach in a B747, after doing a double-crew trip: Hong Kong-Khabarovsk-Anchorage-Chicago-JFK (without getting off the airplane) only to lose a hydraulic system on the way into JFK. What approach was being used? The VOR 13L of course... I've never seen so many emergency vehicles lining the runway as we did that evening as we rolled out on final at a couple of hundred feet.

Fun times...
