Can anybody photoshop that to see how it would work with the widget? I'm sure there is a way.. ftB.. you seem pretty good at that sort of thing...

Gloopy;
DAL has opted to pay down debt instead of buying new jets. It allows them flexibility down the road. We are pulling everything we have out of storage. Because of this decision, AS is doing flying we could do and have done. It stinks for the pilots but from a corporate standpoint it allows them to have a market presence without the CAPEX.

Yes, the code share is just another form of outsourced flying, and at jets larger than 76 seats. So are JV's and the like. I would love to see the us perform all of this flying, and it may happen some day but it will be as a result of mergers and acquisitions (AS, HA, AF/ KLM merger when the time is correct) and not organic growth alone. IMO, airlines have decided to join forces and as a result flight fewer airlines in the RASM battle. Long term it should work in our favor with better margins and less competition. We will all probably take some sort of hit on seniority along the way though.

Ummm, since the merger we have parked almost 60 DC-9's that are paid for and making good money at these fuel prices (and no, they have not been replaced by MD-90's)

Ya think?

Nothing in the PWA...

They used to do it all the time until the new schedulers showed up about a year ago. That's around the time I first starting hearing that line. I'm guessing there's a schedulers' "handbook" with language to that effect.

The former schedulers seemed to be more "empowered" and able to "make it so..."

I agree that we should learn from it. I think the only way to get rid of the code share is to buy them.

I do get that. To a point. I actually like the philosophy behind getting cheap A/C now with no debt and leapfrogging the competition when the nextgen narrowbodies come out. (assuming thats what we do and not hire TSA/SKYW/RAH to do Mitsubishi/C Series for us). The AK CS is providing some great feed that was absent pre DAL + NWA. Much of that feed is pumping up the Pacific expansion. LA-SYD would probably go to seasonal were it not for the CS and the margins and LF from west coast to Japan would suffer as well. We need the feed now to make the big bucks and later to fend off the impending mega UAL push in the Pacific.

And I do see a symbiotic benefit to both DL and AK with this CS. However it is IMHO more to AK's benefit as we can do any one route that AK does, while conversely AK can not do many of the mutually beneficial routes that we do (without incuring massive costs and debt such as a large widebody fleet, etc).

I don't think we have to grow into every AK route. It would be nice for our list, but not practical anytime soon. However the reduction in any fleet or route because of the CS just isn't right (like the hit some fleets took to LA) and some routes like BOS-SEA seem like a no brainer for DL to do, at least it does when I walk through the half empty billion dollar Taj Mullin in BOS only to look across the tarmac and see the old terminal packed to the gills and dominated by an upstart.

I wonder if we suddenly come across a good deal on some 717's if that might free up some 88/90's or 737/320's to go west.

Looks like I will be out sick for 3-6 months for surgery (ruptured Achilles tendon). Is it better to call in sick once for the whole time or bid everymonth and call in sick monthly. I do have vacation in Nov and Dec and don't really know how that works, Help! Thanks in advance
