Just an unverified observation. Takeoffs and landings logged in ACARS on the 330 have been showing up automatically in iCrew for some pilots. I haven't heard about reactivation of this feature, so I'm tossing this out there for research by those of you that fly desks part time.

I'll watch on the 320. I was told that we are looking at regaining a lot of the ACARS functions we had at NWA. :)

It would really be nice to get the landing data back; better formatting on the weather.

And, your last sentence sounds a little bit like a management negotiator's. Full restoration may not be in the cards yet, but a hefty pay raise and better work rules along with tighter scope is in order.

Although pilot costs are fixed in the near term, they'll become variable when management decides to rationalize capacity by retiring aircraft and not filling vacancies as pilots retire. Although fares are variable, management has less control in setting them these days as internet driven sales has put more power with the consumer, who are more likely to vote with their feet when they select which airline they'd rather fly.

Like organized labor, I dislike management from taking large bonuses. I do like the idea of shareholders setting performance based pay supplements for both management and line employees.

In the next set of CBA talks I'd like to see both pilots and management find ways to improve quality of life and reduce costs. I'm a fan of Allegiant because they control their costs having all their flying as day trips not requiring overnights stays on the road. Would you like to fly for DAL and get to sleep in your own bed every night if you drove DC9s and M88s? This would require pilot bases to be diversified beyond the current hubs or allow pilots to port where they begin and end their trips like WestJet.

For example I think that HNL would be a decent place for a pilot base for the 744, 330 and 7ER.

Hey man I would like to be one of the first guys to say this, My own bed is not in DTW, MSP, NYC or any other amazing bases we have here... Please do not start the whole commuting is a choice nonsense. FYI 5 day trips on the DC9 ave VERY VERY senior!

Well, it's not fun to commute to. I thinks it's very bearable if you live in base.

You would not catch me EVER commuting to an 7ER category on reserve. But that's just me.

Is it really that bad? I guess I am about to find out in the next couple of months..

Guys are definitely migrating into LA. Not in huge numbers but the playing field is definitely changing.

Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you. :o

I've been commuting to reserve since April 08. It's not impossible, but the longer the commute the harder it can be. Midwest to DTW/MSP isn't hard on reserve. You just need to know your work rules & contract, & know them well. The schedulers do push things IMO, but if you know you're correct & stand your ground they'll back off. It's happened lately IMO because certain fleets are understaffed. If your wondering about my comment related to the 7er, it's just more sticky because it's a domestic & international category so it's more complicated. Whitlow doesn't apply to international flying, so scheduling can do things that they can't do to a domestic guy, & it's easy to mix that stuff up IMO.

Don't sweat it, it's doable. I'm just getting tired of it. :o

Chill out Carl. Junior guys are being forced north and senior guys are moving south...exactly as predicted. Trust me, senior guys are not flocking to Detroit or MSP for that matter. Remove your tinfoil fNWA hat and move on.:D

I don't see why not. Who needs coffee when you can wake up doing a walk around in -30 degrees windchill? :D
