Yep, there is the trick. They have not assigned you a conversion in DBMS all that list is, is a best guess, so until they actually assign you a conversion date you are not converted. Now the latest conversion per the AE may come up. If you are past that date, then you are converted by default and sit at home until training.
All the flexibility for planning is on their side. What if Vol has x-mas plans? Ooops, doesn't matter. It's easier for the company to keep him hanging on until they decide what they want to do. At the very least, we need to tighten it up so they have to pick a conversion date (and put it in writing) within a reasonable time (say 10 days) after publishing the AE award. Then both sides can plan. If the company doesn't get their house in order with respect to training and gets backed up, then the pilot sits home. |
When I went in to ecrew to check in for my trip, I saw that my two weeks of vacation for the end of December had been removed for training, and that got me wondering about all this. Now I need to figure out how to rebid the vacation for February or something!
Man, I am clueless with this stuff.... |

I do not have the AE in front of me, but you are correct if the Conversion window ends Dec 1, 2010. If you are not in training you are off. That is the latest date one can be converted on that AE.
I was also discussing pilots that have planned conversion dates in the middle of the conversion window. It is "planned' Until it shows in DBMS it is not official. That does not hold true if you are not converted by the end of the conversion window. VACANCY/SURPLUS AWARD REPORT ADVANCE ENTITLEMENTS TEXT AS OF 09:01:48 19MAY2010 AWARD DATE: 19MAY10 CONVERSION WINDOW: 01JUN10 - 01DEC10 If you were awarded something on the May AE and have not already converted and aren't on the November conversion list, you'll be converted on 1 Dec. At that time you forfeit your current category (Sec 22) and await training at a pro-rated portion of the ALV. You'll receive your new pay rate as well. |

100% correct Commuting to reserve LAX is horrible, with SNA & ONT in the mix. It should be your last choice. I would go with SLC320 commuting from PHX. |
Thanks ACL. The Conversion window ends Dec 1st for the May AE. That was where I was getting confused by your post. I understand what you were saying now.
Crisis Averted!.....Carry on. Vol |
I wish I was in your shoes. Christmas off. Way to go.
As Dragon states, and I was to lazy to sign on to my other computer to pull the award, Everyone off the May AE will be converted on Dec 1st whether or no you have gone though or started training. Since the conversion is on the first you should get ALV for all of Dec if you are in training for that entire month. It will be pro rated if you are scheduled to complete prior to the 31st. Let me know how 320 training goes. I am thinking that may be my next stop if I get displaced in Jan. |

This bears repeating: The Delta AE system gives the company WAY too much flexibility.

Yes, as has been said, if you got the bid on the 19 May AE then you must be converted on or before 1 Dec. Don't forget that any vacation (primary, secondary, tertiary etc.) you had that starts after 1 Dec you will now have to rebid all at once. Make sure you have the vacation rebid in prior to 1 Dec. It will be awarded by 5 Dec.
Denny PS. Enjoy your time off from 1 dec until you go to training!! Thanks for the vacation re-bidding tip. This million-page thread has been a wealth of information! |
