Since we are talking about scheduling. Why is it they tag a rotation to be "reserve only". I don't recall seeing that in the coverage order. Usually happens when they bring reserves in from another base....which I am also not real sure about.

Oh wait... nevermind.

OK, what we have here is a failure to communicate. I suppose I should have thrown in a few 's and a TIC here and there.

Short call is a part of this job, regardless if you commute or not.

I thought my post had an appropriate level of sarcasm for most on this board to realize.

I live in ATL and am based here. Shortcall should cease immediately in ATL because I don't want to be on shortcall. And I have to drive to the airport and everything. This is b.s. Thanks a lot, ALPA. Where's my DPA card to mail in?

I think you missed the point, why 3:30AM..... Nothing against shortcalls, do them all the time.

Agreed. Sad that a guy in the peak of his career probably just threw away everything he's worked for, for the last 20+ years, for a few drinks on the layover.

How did it get that far? What was he thinking? Where was someone else on the crew to say, "dude, you're sick, call in sick. Now. If you don't, I'll do it for you."?

Sad that his wife? college aged kids? now wonder how things will ever be the same again.

Look out for your crew. Your career is extremely fragile - use your head and take care of each other.

100% Agreed.

No, I get it. 0330 sucks no matter where you are. But I get 0400, 0500, 0600, 0700 SC's all the time. Those would be bad for a commuter too. Where do you draw the line on a good time to begin SC?

At the risk of being labeled an ALPA sympathizer, they're really not to blame for that.

Jughead,

No problem at all. I totally understood your post and agree with it. I was just using it to make a different point. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Well, a year ago there was no SC before 10:00am, and despite them lasting 24 hours one could commute up that day, and home the next. Now it is common to spend two nights away from the family every SC one has. I just don't see the need for it. Is it a revenge? Is it hatriat to the pilots? Or do they really need it? They also put us on for 24 hours since we are "international" category. There is not one trip in open time going international for this entire month. So what I am saying is, make the SC 12 hours long or give me a time were as I can be rested and in position for a long international flight. Makes sense, doesn't it?

No misunderstandings - you're an 88 guy - tip of the spear as far as pilots and super smart guys go around here. I knew what you meant ;)

Viking -

I have no idea. Pretty sure it's not revenge, hatred of pilots, or if they really need it. Open time comes and goes like the wind around here...there was none in my category today until the 20th, but I checked what was given out today, and they gave out 5 green slips.

In a perfect world, I'd love for you to run scheduling, but you don't have the big picture.

Rumor has it, the big picture used to be kept inside the hangar door down in TPA. I saw it briefly one time, but they made me leave, so I really didn't get a good look.

Since DTW is under utilized and ATL does have a on time dep and arr problem, plus an extremely low O&D, perhaps more traffic will be flowing through DTW and out of ATL, just a thought to balence it out:)

I thought the big picture was the one they give you when you retire. You know, the one everybody signs... :D
