Alfa,

I give no sentiment that any employee group, for any airline, has had a cake walk in the CH-11 process. I am merely trying to point out that NWA had its own agenda in the CH-11 process and the employee groups acted as they felt they needed.


For you to say the fact that the NWA F/As did something to hurt DALPA's position is from your perspective and not theirs. Their circumstances were different esp in how the employee groups were treated and the threats involved.


I completely agree with you that management has a ton of leverage/tools in CH-11 and voting "No" isn't always the answer. The company can do tons of damage to a labor group/contract and it really depends on how far the company is swinging for the fences and what a group is willing to lose.


IMHO, I highly doubt that any employee group would be allowed to walk under any CH-11 process. It is just my opinion that a judge will side with management for the sake of keeping the company solvent since it is reorganization.


Personally, I think the merger went extremely well. I hope we keep a good liquidity position and never get near Ch-11 again

He was asking Bastian why the management people didn't get their pensions/golden parachutes cancelled in bankrupcty.

It was 3 years ago, I was still on probation and trying not too laugh noticably/make myself as small and unnoticable so as not to get fired as this captain was laying into him like I've never seen a cockpit visitor get chewed out! I can't remember the specific words the captain used, but that was my understanding of it.


The best part was, the CA found out he was coming on board and told the a-line that he was not welcome in the cockpit. I get back in from doing the walk around and was walking up first class only to see him make his way up front to the cockpit about 5 feet ahead of me without the A-line noticing. I was standing behind him for the first part and hear this "I KNOW GOOD AND WELL WHO YOU ARE!" Oh, hilarity...

One of our tools that DALPA wielded with high effectiveness was to scare the poop out of the UCC that we would shut the place down if our contract was rejected.
Do you get a half ALPA star for that?

Nope, no stars, ribbons, or breasplates. Just a much better contract than management or the creditors wanted and a few hundred million dollars in our pocket that our peers didn't get!:p

Seems to me 757 with plastic body and GTFs and 787 or at least 737 cockpit would do well but I hear SWA wants dual isles and what they want Boeing does. I am sure Ryan air wants that too.

No, they just froze their pensions as opposed to terminating them. I wonder whose retirees are happier? :p

On that note I think the one of the biggest things we can do to move our respective careers along and all those 60 + out the door is improve outrageously expensive retiree medical plans. I hope if we offer another PRIP it comes with medical benefits to 65 and we'll all be moving up a seat.

Pay raises are a must in the next contract, but a higher paying seat and career progression will net you more in the long run

Nope, just $2,000,000,000, yep that's $2 billion, in bankruptcy returns. We had some pilots get over $1 million from the notes and claim combined. I called my bank and they said they don't accept battle stars to pay the mortgage but they do accept cash.
