A couple of questions about reserve.
Can I set up a trade with a friend for days off? i.e. I need the 10th off he needs the 15th of can we swap with each other? As long as it doesn't cause one of you to violate grouping of days and off day reqirements you can do it. You both have to call scheduling to get it done and it can be a pain in the neck.

I always do, but if it is after 1200 then you are done on your last day going into X days.

Agree...........like saying a non-vote is a vote for the ____________ party (fill in the blank yourself) because ____________ (again fill in your own reason). See, I'm not getting this thread closed :D
On a truly union political note (I think I said this before) if the AFA loses, look for another card drive with an inhouse FA union wanting to organize. I talked to a couple of FAs who agreed with me that probably what REALLY swung the election was PFAA (the old in house union at NWA) types wanting to stick it to the AFA for getting them kicked off the property during bankruptcy. Sort of like another thread we have going on APC:rolleyes: Ferd <-----------feels strongly both ways about a FA union. If she's cute, I agree completely with what she is saying:eek: I think what swung this is that many South F/A's didn't see the AFA as a credible option, and that they were pushed by AFA into the company's arms. I think some of them felt it was arrogant to try to work with the NMB, but not so much with them. Therefore, some of this simply his about the bigger group asserting its' independence. When I speak to South F/A's there is only a part of them that is staunchly anti-union, and another that is essentially anti-AFA. Ultimately, I think there could be a consensus reached once they all work together, around a third way. I don't even know that it would have to be in-house, but it would have to be competent. A lot of F/A's seem to mention Teamsters with some degree of respect, FWIW. I think it's a mistake to assume South F/A's can't get their brain-washed minds around the notion of a union. I haven't gotten from the PanAm people that they were strongly against this vote because of PFAA, but many of them are speakers, and the speaker issue was important to the South side. At any rate, many of them have been members, and they know the deal. North people might think they're incapable of getting the concept, but the truth is that they are simply shopping options, weighing what they can get now, vs. a strong union, vs. size-28 dresses... They just need to be convinced, and be part of the decision. The system they've had had worked for them rather well, but I'm sure they'd go for a better option, if they felt like it was also their idea. I've said it before: AFA made a big blunder when it held back integration, and tried to fight the company, and force a vote, all the while ignoring the South F/A's. RA is not their constituent, and you can't ignore your constituents. And they're still at it: everything they do is geared to protect AFA, and none of it is set up to make the South people feel like anything but pawns. |
man, flipping channels at the hotel and low and behold a vh1 show with men playing volleyball in front of men... could it be? Maverick? Goose? Yes!! Play by play in order? I think so. So charlie invited him over for sexy dinner because she wanted to know more about a mig? aw this is so funny.... :D

Sink,
I honestly didn't care enough to get that deep into it. I think AFA was being forced on the south FAs because AFA was who represented the north FAs. If you look at the results, there was a higher than anticipated NO vote on the north side and why I think it's the old PFAA crowd working step one of their long range plan. I don't remember the PFAA being all that popular, but again, I never cared enough to look at it closely. There has always been a big fight between the old Teamsters, those wanting an inhouse union (PFAA) and then AFA. I'm enough of a good business major to believe that unions aren't necessary in a perfect world (that includes ours). But, I also work in this industry and I'm glad I have one........we have another thread to debate which one. Maybe an inhouse union is something the south FAs can get behind, you know them better than I. Like I said, I predict about a year after the AFA goes down (and I think they will) they will get that chance. Just another chapter to this story. Ferd |
Another opinion about the FA union vote: I think that some of the south FAs may of liked the union, but felt that if the AFA was voted in, that the North FAs would run the show, and hog the leadership roles.
Anything the South FAs mightof wanted would get shot down. Also, I think that a lot of "good deals" that the South FAs like would be gone (junior FAs can bid Purser, make 20% more, no pure reserve schedules. Even junior FAs essentially have a line, with only 3 or 6 reserve days in it. I suspect that under the North rules, it would be more of a pilot reserve system. Very bad for the junior FAs. |
