When I talk to senior guys about scope I like to tell them about how I was number two in my category at one point last year. They say "wow, number two? You must still be pretty senior then." I then tell them that I was number two of two, was on reserve then, and have been on reserve pretty much every month since then. The point being - seniority is relative, and the number of people below you is just as important as the number of people above. A sale of scope would most likely result in a shrinking of the mainline pilot group - and that affects the relative seniority of EVERYONE on the list with the exception of #1. So, if a guy thinks that he is too senior to be affected by a scope sale, he is just plain wrong.

They ... are in no mood to TA anything that would give any more scope up. Period. Call your reps and ask em. I have not found one rep in our entire system that has given a conditional response to that question. I have phrased it every which way, and the answer is always the same:
I do not care how it is packaged, I will not be voting for anything that further relaxes the 76 seat limit. Same holds true for other scope as well. All of the reps I have talked to say the decision is simple. If DAL wants to fly a bigger jet than 76 seats, they can, but it will be flown by Delta pilots. Period, end of story, not mincing of words. |

Carl;
I think that after the AF JV and the AS Code Share agreement, scope is in fact finally getting the attention of a lot of the pilots.

Like I have said, to get them to make this issue their issue, it needs to be spelled out for them. It takes time and repeating ones self often. :D Most want their pay back and with ten year or less they have become single issue pilots that are frankly way over this whole aviation thing. To a guy like me, it is disheartening.

Did you write your reps about how you feel? I know my reps have my remarks about the "letter." Frankly, I am watching actions. |

ACL,
We will see. I will put it to you this way, I am senior to all the 07/08 DAL new hires and I am "stashing cash" like you can't believe. Just because you and I would vote "No" doesn't mean that 51% won't vote "Yes" behind the closed doors of their home. Don't worry though, I am sure such a deal would include "Super Enhanced Furlough Protection" to make it easier to handle but we all know what that is worth. There is a saying in Finance and that is "follow the money". There will be intense pressure to have someone fly the C Series et al for the 100 seat gap. Boeing is up to their hips in alligators to do a new aircraft and I just don't see a re-engined A320 being a player. When the company lays a stack of money on the table for a sell out, we will see how the "spin" will be handled. I just don't see the company wanting to fly the EMB/CSeries aircraft here and it will be a lot cheaper to try to bribe the pilot group instead. I see a lot of guys writing about the C-Series being outsourced. First of all, it's not even in production yet. Secondly, we aren't talking about a stretched CRJ. We are talking about brand new Bombardier product that they have NEVER built. This thing will have production issues like crazy. They used to call the EMB170 the 180 because all it did was leave the gate and turn right back to it for maintenance. The airplane isn't even scheduled to be out until 2016. The only 100 seat airplane out there is the EMB190/195 & the only operators are JetBlue & RAH. Do you really think we would pay RAH to fly EMB190's as DCI? I don't think so. Maybe a Codeshare, but that's it. Also, does anybody realize that 3 of our 4 negotiators are JUNIOR guys? If they sell scope, they're WB CA seats are GONE!! There is a ton at stake for them too. Selling more scope is a walk out item. It won't even make it to MEMRAT. If people are sooooo worried about it then QUIT COMPLAINING on a web board and CALL YOUR REPS!!!!!!!! :mad: Rant over. :o |

In all your work to "educate" the poor old stupid senior people you constantly fly with, you're blind to how much education YOU need. The education of not being scammed by what people say, and pay attention to what people actually do. The education of the bloated, and conflicted mess that is ALPA national. The bloated and conflicted mess that you fight so hard to keep in power despite their actions. Carl I am far from scammed. I know that no matter what people think, the new MEC administration must follow the will of the MEC Council. The reps will not accept any less. Period. As for defending National. Again it is the structure not a person that I defend. Reform is needed, and as I have said, DPA does not have the back support in place to defend this profession. Reform what we have. Demand it. If your reps will not do it, follow the process. |

My reps are probably sick of hearing from me, but that's OK. If/until we get a new union, it's all I can do. O'Malley will also hear my comments. We'll see if he can separate himself from the ALPA/Moak machine long enough to listen to Delta pilots. We'll see.
Carl Yes, we will see what Tim does. It is after all his second day on the job. :rolleyes: |
