Geez, I might be old but my math says 8 777ER's plus 10 777LR's equals 18. I still agree with the gist of your post just not the math.

Good analysis except you overlook that it is a roughly 1/3 reduction in Captain seats for that staffing, and all junior Capt seats. Those are going to DCI, and we have more long term F/O's. Good news if you are senior already and eligible for those new WB A's, sucks if you wanted to be a junior NB Captain. How much longer to a first time A position now?

And this wasn't necessarily in his testimony... but don't forget about labeling our potential strike a "murder/suicide"... and then the whole turning the other employees against us thing. I could never have imagined that anyone could have such a complete lack of respect for what we do.
That was a very dark time and I'm glad it's behind us. The attitude towards us by the other employees was absolutely appalling. By far the worst thing I think I've ever seen in all of my career. I hope none of us ever see anything like that again. EVER.

The best job protection is NOT no-furlough clauses not worth the paper they're written on. The best furlough protection are aircraft OPERATED by the mainline and FLOWN by Delta pilots, no matter the size. EVERY seat is worthwile, NOT just the ones you feel "are worth it". Every seat is worth it.

CMR had 113 RJs in '08 in the next 18 months they'll be down to something like 44. No furloughs?
I agree that every seat is worthwhile, but I suspect that the parking of so many aircraft would result in furloughs, whether they were flown by mainline or not.
