I know this rumor comes and goes on here and it's usually debunked, but I've heard recently from some mid level tech ops guys that delta and southwest are engaged in serious talks about a deal involving us getting their 717's for some of our B737's and some gate swaps in atl. Again, just rumor but this seemed interesting.

Yeah, the 717 rumor does come and go - I just don't see SWA looking to hand over those to their big competitor in ATL. And I'm sure SWA can get 737s from Boeing at the drop of a hat - no need to swap. Gate swaps too? Whoever is giving up gates in ATL is being dumb - even our mgmt would realize that.

I can't believe Delta would ever give Southwest any gates in Atlanta. Never say never, but that seems very unlikely.

Ed I heard this last fall and one thing for sure it's been a consistent rumor from high up people, including higher ups in the 88 program. Now why would they let DAL get their hands on them? Well, they may beat the 735 and probably 733 but not the 737-7 and SWA has more on order now then AAI has 717s. Among other reasons to off load them.

You know who else talks about this? sWA management in their crewroom road shows. Which is what ive heard from DAL management folks in that it is not DAL who wants 717s per se but SWA who wants them out.

The SWA management types recently told their pilots that there is no plans to "sell 717s to Delta... In 2011."

If I were SWA and DAL, I'd look at swapping all of DALs D gates to C gates and moving SWA out of C to D, that way they have the whole terminal and we can condense our domestic ops.

Of the half that do them, maybe a third or so shouldn't and of those many need to read the FOM on silent hours.

Of that half that don't, maybe 2/3rds should pick it up? Because some really great A's should speak more often, they do it really well.

However, there are those who do a bit too much pilot lingo. And I was deadheading on a plane once and the Captain did a full 5-8 min talk (time that out, that's very long on a PA) to explain something about global warming and fuel saved collectively by flying on an airliner versus if everyone had driven or something, anyways, solves global warming. It was a long PA and the A has my permission to do whatever he wants without hearing me question it, but I do tend to favor the right wing of the airplane so it was a tad longer.

The more you ride in the back the less PA's you make because frankly all you hear back there is one FA PA after another.

Depends, what's on the back? :D

I did join Toomers for Tuscaloosa.

By the way, I'm sure other organizations are doing this too but one way my church has decided to help is for us to go to Walmart, Target, Lowes or Home Depot and buy gift cards. They distribute them to those who need them or to those helping those who need them.

For what its worth, I flew with that guy and I thought it was a great PA :)

I have flown with him too, and he gets a lot of complements on that PA by passengers when they are leaving.

Yea - no plans, until the plans change.

Second, if I were DAL, I'd keep the odd gates at C and the evens at D. That way, they'd control the whole Ramp 4. That way, they could bring in an auctioneer to run the ramp freq and keep the operation moving. But, there's benefits (connections) to having everyone in D.

Don't bother with the Windows stuff; totally unnecessary.

DO NOT use Firefox 4; download 3.6.17. I haven't heard if they fixed version 4 yet.

The $9 version of Office also applies to Mac if you haven't already used it for Windows.

Google Chrome.

Handbrake if you want videos on layover unless you are going to carry an external DVD drive cuz the Air doesn't have an internal one.

Skype.

Inkscape if you want a free graphics proggy, but you will have to learn it on your own.

TInkertool if you want to tweak stuff behind the scenes in MacOS.

Thanks guys! I've made a list just like for apps on the iPhone and am working through them.

I couldn't find firefox 3.6 but I did notice that firefox 4 was up to 4.0.1 so I took a chance and it seems to work just fine with iCrew and iCrew max.

I have an email into Greg Hale as I cant get BidAssist to load from the download.....I have an uneasy feeling its a windows program (even though he lists MAC as a trouble shooting option). I wasn't going to mess with it (used it for years and like the sort function) but the desktop PBS is windows only. Does that other Delta PBS program work on a MAC?

Thanks again for all you're help......any thoughts on getting a wireless printer to work.
