It looks like the the reduction in DAL flying is actually 10-12%. From Bloomberg today.

Bigger Cut

Delta CEO Richard Anderson acknowledged on April 26 that there was “significant industry overcapacity” on trans-Atlantic routes, and the Atlanta-based carrier said May 6 it would pare seating in the market by 8 to 10 percent following the Labor Day holiday in September. Delta President Ed Bastia said today at a transportation conference that the figure is now 10-12 percent.

That's a good question. According to Nosmo's post, all it says is "out of base swap board." If it was a swap between line holding pilots from different bases, I could probably be convinced it's okay but why would the guy living in base want to do something like this? I know, stranger things have happened but I don't see it happening very often. If it's a swap with open time then I feel it's an abrogation of senority via the example I gave. It also potentially screws reserves in both bases by tranfering time from one base to another. Now you could be impacting whether a trip would be awarded via a greenslip because the swapped trip might now be in a base where there is plenty of reserve coverage. You know the company is not going to agree to an out of base swap unless it's advantageous to them.

This is a bad idea.

I believe that's still referring to the total cut among ALL airlines in the JV. I believe the JV requires DAL pilots to have the largest piece of the pie.

If this was posted sarcastically then I apologize in advance. But.......

If your plans for the year never change then good on you! I don't know what I'm doing next month let alone for the whole year. I plan as much as I can but...........plans change and this is one way to try and adjust to the change. I don't see where this has any impact on seniority.

In the last 2 years I've swapped a week of vacation. One I needed to change the week at the last minute and the other a guy called me to swap because of a once in a lifetime opportunity for him and his family and I gladly swapped with him.

This is a way to better our quality of life and I see no problem with it.

Wouldn't this "senior" ATL pilot have the choice to bid to NYC also? There's no guarantee the NYC pilot will get anything. There's no guarantee the NYC pilot can drop any thing. This same choice would be an option for both pilots. How is that hurting seniority? Both pilots have choice to bid NYC or ATL.

It wasn't sarcasm Denny, that's the way these guys think. Anything, I mean anything that is better for the whole but disrupts their comfy golf cart community is blasphemy. Where is brakechatter petitioning to get rid of pilot to pilot swaps?? Isn't IT ALL related?????
Brakechatter = pilot to pilot swaps, if you want it, bid it!!!!

P.S. Swap with the pot, if you want it, bid it....................????

Ts,

I might be convinced of an out of base pilot to pilot swap board with some serious restrictions such as no drops only (like you can do on the in base swapboard we have now). If it was only "this trip for that trip," I don't see a big problem. I don't think this would happen very often but I can see where, if I now need a particular day off I might be able to do an out of base swap and change my departure date by a couple of days and get the day off I needed but also now have to commute out of base for a trip. I'm not seeing a big problem with this but I could be wrong. As I said, there would have to be some serious restrictions.

Basically, just wait for crew scheduling to call or am I contractually obligated to acknowledge the trip if seen on Icrew. (I've heard captains tell me to do this)
Don't know that it will benefit you to do this in most cases. They will just call you at the 3 hr prior point to acknowledge it. You are obligated to check your schedule at least every 9 hours while on long call. If they placed the trip on your line in excess of 12 hours prior, then it is yours.
