Based on LOA 29, we can deviate from first deadhead to get company business, or did I read that wrong? Well, I called scheduling to do that and they said I could not deviate until 24 hrs prior. So I have my OE out of base which has a deadhead to it from base, now I must wait until 24 hrs to get my company business ticket to get to my OE?

Effective immediately, such a pilot will be afforded positive space travel from a domestic airport (or an airport in the Hawaiian Islands) in the vicinity of his permanent residence, so long as Company Business seats are available on his desired flight. Such travel may be booked under Company Business in TravelNet up to 14 days prior to report of the rotation. A pilot who makes such a reservation will be required to make every effort to cancel it if he no longer requires or intends to use the

I gather you did not read the LOA. You are confusing positive space with notification of DH deviation. They are totally separate.

One 74 to Marana until Jan, 2 74s back to the lease company, which is probably a play to reduce the lease cost, the already announced 9s and 10-12 75/76 to the desert.

OK...PCS gurus..if I'm trying to drop a whole bunch of crappy trips...say ..6 x 3 day trips...how do I put that in...(one each in a PD priority, or a combo of all of them in some priority...etc..)
The question is: what is the logic on PD requests...does getting Priority 1 immediately stop the run, or will it look at Priority 2 as well?

Don't know that it will benefit you to do this in most cases. They will just call you at the 3 hr prior point to acknowledge it. You are obligated to check your schedule at least every 9 hours while on long call. If they placed the trip on your line in excess of 12 hours prior, then it is yours.
Once on a sequence of days you have no obligation to check your schedule. If scheduling wishes to assign you a trip or SC they must phone your contact numbers and leave a message if you don't answer. You then have 9 hours to acknowledge that contact via computer or phone.
I have had a scheduler fail to contact me about an assignment when I discovered it the report time was only 5 hours away and the scheduler tried to tell me it was my responsibility to have checked my schedule. After explaining I required a legal rest period and pointing out the contract language I finally has to speak with a supervisor who after some discussion finally admitted the mistake and changed the assignment.
Point is, be careful. The contact from scheduling is required from a FAR standpoint to start an assigned legal rest period prior to a trip or SC.
None of this stuff is bad on the surface, and I totally get your example. neither vacation swaps nor pilot to pilot swap board sound bad. Then you get the example of trip parking rearing its ugly head--sharpshooting. I don't have a problem with sharpshooting, until it violates seniority.
You've seen the example on pilot to pilot swaps. The same thing essentially applies to vacation. I am a junior captain in Atlanta, but I have a very good friend who is #10 in my category. He can bid for any thing he wants. Since we are such good buddies, he bids for vacation over xmas--he can just bid it off on the monthly schedule. He gets my crummy early march vacation--as he can likely do a move-up anyway. I get off for xmas and New years--neither of which i can hold off-even on reserve. Viola. Meanwhile, the guy who could have gotten the xmas week of vacation--more senior than me, doesn't get it. if your plans for the year change, that's what move-ups are for.
This stuff ain't rocket science.

I do think, with a little tweaking of the rules, the situation you describe above could be avoided. Not so much with pilot to pilot swaps or out of base swapping.Denny
I think Bar's prediction of furloughs is just a year late. I see the US economy not recovering and unemployment still high and fuel prices out of this world. Chaos in the Middle East, earthquakes, birds and snakes, and airplanes, and even Lenny Bruce is afraid.
Now they may hold off, learning from recent experience, thinking that the economy will recover after the elections next year. I bet though there are major displacements from WBs in NYC. That will roll down the proverbial hill.

Speaking on behalf of those few hundred hired last year, I beg to differ...I think Bar's prediction of furloughs will not materialize, with FedEx, SWA, Atlas, and several other carriers hiring, combined with the upcoming retirements. A furlough is not cost effective unless it lasts two years or more, from the senior captains I've talked to; likewise, RA has made the statement in the last couple of months that, "Delta is not a furlough airline."

If you are really just trying to get them off your line and be rid of them, I'd recommend the pilot to pilot swap board. Put them in as drops with no requirement to contact you. Check back in a couple hours, your laundry will be clean.
