I guess I have never heard anyone not say "pressure normal," as far as "nit picking"....it makes it much easier when you know what everyone is going to do, and say. Since there will be lots of changes on the Cat2/3 call outs to name just a few ...sure would be nice if everyone was on the same page.
Actually, I try to say it correctly every time. But to sit in a debrief and hear one of you "left and right seaters" tell one of us that on one departure we called for a "Climb Check" instead of a "Climb CheckLIST" is "nit-picking". |

I think ACL 65 scares them with is over preparedness, showing up early, all aligned, noises made, walk around done and taxi and enroute charts at the ready. It takes the Captains a couple of legs to wind down and figure out he isn't some sort of a Line Check First Officer (yet :) ). As a reserve, sometimes a couple of legs is all you get.
The smallest of items can arouse suspicion. Like using a lanyard instead of the little spring clip for your ID. I had a Captain comment that only the LCA's & management types use the lanyards. I'm not sure how to respond when asked about these new procedures. Frankly, it will be ten years before I command the pushback procedure and my priorities are coordinating with the ramp tower, ensuring we don't hit anything or blow anything over and getting the engine(s) started. Whether or not someone talks about the bypass pin and pressure normal just does not rise that high on my list, although I do like being able to physically see the pin as the ramper walks away. It is easy to fake a call out, harder to fake actually having the in in your hand (although that trick has been done too). Best way to tell if the bypass pin is out, is the jerk you get when they remove it. (Um that or try to steer) AQFO? Not sure I will be doing that anytime soon. |
Agreed...just calling for the title vs list of check should be sufficent, those are not the things that will kill you....I worry about the new call outs for both sides and the shear mass of changes.

That is their job. Just smile and nod, get a pass and live to fight another day. They have to teach you something. IMHO it is part "Check" and part "Checklist" The "Check" is doing the 29.92 thing AND turning off the required lights. The "Checklist" part is the "Challenge and Response part of the "Checklist", which is: Altimeters...29.92 Cross Check |

Buck,
Yeah, MNL only goes to NGO or NRT as far as I know. If it shows HNL it's probably because it connects through NRT. Just a thought for an adventure.........take a look at MNL to GUM to HNL on Contential. May be fun too. Ferd |

Of course. Of course.

First, let me say, that I'll do it exactly like they want it done as long as they spell my name right on the paycheck.
But, talking with a training type doing the phase one "survey" we are in for a couple years of changes on both sides. On the north side, we are doing "adopt and go" so we can get to SOC. After that, there are boxes of stuff that will be the foundation for "best practices". Those will be slowly approved by the Feds and put into practice. So........save your breath, there is a lot more B#&ch'en to come. Ferd |
I don't care for the Cruise Checklist. It is one step and requires multiple items to be checked. If you want me to check multiple things, put them in a checklist and I'll do them. When I had a LCA onboard, I got my Vol-1 out and I read all of the things that required my attention. The Capt kind of laughed at me because I was acting it up and being overly thorough. :)
