Unless I missed something, it appears SWA uses pre-published line of time bidding.
I think a lot of Delta pilots like the level of control PBS bidding has given them.
I don't think there's a way to bid your schedule with PBS and not have your vacation also in the PBS system.
So I don't understand what you mean when you say "non-PBS vacation". How would that work?
For me personally, I'm a simple guy. I'd like to get more hours per day on my vacation and I'd like to have more days of vaction per year. But if you have some other idea, I'm always ready to hear how I can get more time off and more money!
Pinnacle of all airlines had non PBS vacation.. and that is a big credit booster. You get your PBS line and then place your vacation (slide it +/- 4 days in either direction IIRC to cover over trips) on your line. Tada.
Quote: Only one problem with your theory...the USA probably won't be the driving force in oil consumption going forward. China, India, and other developing countries without their own internal supply will skew pricing, especially as the US continues to devalue our currency.
Tis true on demand and currency issues, but I guess I should say the U.S. can't handle $4/gas.

I equate $150 with $4 gas because that was 2008, in 2011 we get $4 gas on $110 oil.

But the report says this
...The pilot group gave major concessions in that contract. It was during the disaster of Ron Allen. Guys were on furlough. We were desperately looking for ways to get them back.

But the report says this
The Delta Pilots concluded the 1996 Negotiations arguably possessing the most favorable negotiating leverage presented any Pilot group post-Deregulation.

Also why didn't this report change the way we conduct contract negotiations and ratification. We still vote on a TA before all the language is written (which really bugs me).

On February 20, 1996, Delta and the negotiating committee of the Air Line Pilots Association ("ALPA") reached a tentative agreement on a new, four-year collective bargaining agreement for Delta's approximately 8,000 pilots. The agreement provides for, among other things,

(1) a 2% reduction in base salaries for four years, at which time the current base salaries will be reinstated;

(2) reductions in certain other pay-related areas;

(3) certain productivity improvements, including changes in staffing requirements;

(4) reductions in the Company's cockpit costs on B-737-200 aircraft;

(5) job security protections for currently active pilots and the recall of the approximately 470 pilots on furlough by July 1, 1997;

(6) a prohibition on the Company's engaging in code sharing with respect to aircraft with over 70 seats that are operated by another U.S. airline, subject to certain exceptions;

(7) restrictions in certain circumstances on the Company's entering into new code sharing arrangements involving aircraft operated by foreign airlines;

(8) an early retirement program for up to 500 pilots;

(9) pilot participation in a profit sharing program;

(10) a stock option plan for pilots providing for grants of stock options covering a total of ten million shares of Delta common stock in three installments; and

(11) ALPA's right to appoint an associate non-voting member of Delta's Board of Directors.

I try to set the tone within minutes of entering my flight deck, i.e., let's be safe and let's have fun. Done.

I don't expect any specifics at this stage. What I do expect is for my union to set the tone. Not real difficult.

"Memo to the pilots of Delta Air Lines:

The delta pilots have contributed X dollars over the last X years, which in fact saved Delta Air Lines. Going forward, it should be understood that the delta pilots are expecting significant improvements in all areas of the contract."

Again, I stand by my statement. Alpa has lost touch with the line pilots.

Did you by chance get the walk around yet?

LTD, good post. I agree, you guys have contributed a lot and going forward improvements have been prepaid.

I think you left something out.
I don't know how to spell walk-around.

Captain = Dude. He was already addressed in my WARTS brief "dude, sorry I'm late."
Waiting for Casey Anthony verdict, bet nobody is walking in the terminal right now.

Hey, I totally get it. However, ALPA can come out with all the statements they want, but unless I see real changes, that is nothing but hot air. To me, them coming out with a statement like that is no different than if they got that stupid inflatable rat out again. It doesn't do anything.
