In a perfect world, ALPA would be setting the standard for the professional pilot; pay, scope, retirement, medical, disability, training, safety, etc. What about the young pilot at ASA, Comair, or other Regionals in his or her 20's and 30's that will start a family and want to own a home and send their kids to college. Is ALPA serving them properly? Is ALPA setting the standard for their career? Well, obviously it's not a perfect world and ALPA is collecting dues from all of us, but are they making the "Industry" better, or are we keeping the status quo, or moving backwards?
I look at the ALPA monthly magazine and it just seems like a whole bunch of back slapping going on, but absolutely no teeth. Or to quote and old tv commercial, "where's the beef"? |

Most ALPA (Nat) correspondence goes straight to the recycle bin. I haven't looked, but I'd be happy if there was an opt on for ALL paper from ALPA.

Interesting briefings...I think I have the Oil/Energy one that discusses the trip wire for the skyrocketing oil prices - Saudi's swing production dropped dramatically one month...BAM. |

For several years, my ALPA magazine had never even made it out of the plastic wrapper before going in the trash. About two years ago, I finally called ALPA, and told them not to bother sending it anymore.
Too much self-promotion and too little useful information. What a waste of paper-- I did the same thing... ALPA national is about as useful as it's magazine. I am really not sure if ALPA national is competent enough to represent the worlds largest airline. The union no longer represents the best interest of mainline pilots. I would strongly consider a new 'Delta Pilots Union' that would defend ALL 12,000+ DAL pilots on the property. |

But here is a hard question, what is a bigger waste of paper, ALPA Magazine or 5 pages of ATL NOTAMS? :D And if you haven't flown into ATL lately, I'd be more than happy to paste all of those notams. :) |

10/28 PAPI OTS UFN... I always loved that one. You look beside the runway and see that it's not even installed.
Plus half of those NOTAMs are talking about cranes. |
