Which makes the lease agreement issue on the E190s the big issue, right? They don't want to have 190s when new technology comes in and Embraer doesn't want to have a fleet of 190s being dumped on them (i.e. the open market) in less than 20 years. Thus an impasse? Or is there more to it?

The one knock some airline analyst had on the C-Series was it wasn't a little 787, it was still older technology with a blend of some new. I think Bombardier is trying to do the best they can with technology they feel they can trust. We'll see if its enough and my bet is it is or will be darn close to whatever Boeing and Airbus come up with, but that might not be enough for DAL. I need to subscribe to Aviation Week, they probably have already explained all of this to the nth degree.
Boeing is neck deep in the 787, 747-8, Poseidon and on/off tanker fight. The one part of their company that runs easily, reliably and profitably is the 737 program. They are working through more than 1,000 orders and will increase production with the Navy's version. The last thing Boeing wants is to upset the 737 gravy train with talk of a new airplane. AirBus is much the same with their narrow body programme. They just got the Chinese building them too. This year the web boards have been a better source than Aviation Leak. Just think, you have thousands of readers who review the news and post what you'll want to read here! |

Hey Freebird, I'm with you..... I'm just waving a yellow flag, so that we all are paying attention to the possible wreck ahead. The majority of us have the same goals; a successful, profitable company which we are an integral part. If that happens, we will have the financial success that we are looking toward.
When an MEC starts empathizing a little too much with management the pilots get burned every time. Steenland or one of our previous illustrious DAL-N exec's was once overheard commenting "think how much money we could make if we didn't have any employees"........ |

Everyone needs to support the Scope Report card coming up! Educating the group will help. |

NEVER forget that a company's financial success does not equate to the pilots financial success. Obviously if the company is failing we won't prosper either, but it does not flow the other way without a proactive, agressive union.

I look at the ALPA monthly magazine and it just seems like a whole bunch of back slapping going on, but absolutely no teeth. Or to quote and old tv commercial, "where's the beef"? |

I'd love to have seen you guys in the crewroom yesterday. Or I could've worn a wire and asked your questions... maybe... maybe not such a bright idea. I think the only thing at DAL I want to know that I even exist is icrew. |

This is where I become disenchanted with ALPA. In a perfect world, ALPA would be setting the standard for the professional pilot; pay, scope, retirement, medical, disability, training, safety, etc. What about the young pilot at ASA, Comair, or other Regionals in his or her 20's and 30's that will start a family and want to own a home and send their kids to college. Is ALPA serving them properly? Is ALPA setting the standard for their career? Well, obviously it's not a perfect world and ALPA is collecting dues from all of us, but are they making the "Industry" better, or are we keeping the status quo, or moving backwards?

Add in a perfect world they'd promote us. There is a guy that is the President of some electricians union down here and I used to hear him in commercials on the radio telling everyone why there guys are the best and how we're not the union we used to be. Its like a coach saying these are my kids, I'm proud of them, they play the best, you've got to come and watch. Thats not ALPA. |

Too much self-promotion and too little useful information. What a waste of paper-- |
