All true. Unemployment rate in the City of Detroit is 22%. The rate in Michigan is above 12%.

Yeah, very true! But only if you're senior to me. ;)

I don't know much about DTW or MSP, but you should avoid SLC at all costs. Horrible place, absolutely horrible. Don't come here, trust me go to LAX or anywhere else you can. :)

And don't even get me started on NYC and the operation at JFK. What a disaster! Don't come here because this place is the pits. Just awful...

Early Retirement?

Any rumors on the Early Retirement Plan? If no one bites should I plan on going full time for the Air Force again?

Hi!

There are NOT lots of child abductions in Detroit, or anywhere else in the US, for that matter.

I REALLY HATE how the media has pushed this child/stranger abduction "problem". It got so bad than my CEO didn't want my kids walking alone in GRB from school to her work.

The number of abductions is almost 0, and it is LIGHT YEARS better than in the "good old days" when there was much less security than today.

I don't have exact numbers, but I would estimate there are between 5-10 child/stranger abductions PER YEAR in the WHOLE US!

Almost all the milk-carton photos and post office photos of missing children were taken, illegally, by one of their parents or other family members.

When an Amber Alert goes out, of one abducted child, millions of people find out almost immediately, which is the whole point.

How many stranger abductions were there in the US per year in the 1820s? In Europe in the 1500s? In the Middle Ages???

Ratings are #1 to TV new shows, and pushing the "problem" of child/stranger abductions is a good way to increase viewership and money.

Let's not add to the un-substantiated media frenzy!

Cliff,

I guess I must be one of the rarities. I know someone (Delta pilot) firsthand that had their daughter abducted and murdered by strangers. You're correct that the vast majority of abductions are done by family members, but I don't believe the statistics support your point of view that the number is "almost zero." The small percentage of abductions done by strangers is quite often fatal.

Lose a child. Then maybe you'll pay attention. Or you can spout platitudes.
