I was just making a point. I like the TV commercial too. And I don't really think that's what it was intending to say... I just wanted to make that point.

Johnso, I agree. we could fly our jets more, thus requiring more pilots.
Unfortunately we are currently reducing capacity somewhere around 4% YOY.

Alaska otoh is adding jets, growing the fleet nearly 20% in the next 4 years, increasing capacity 8% YOY. That growth includes parked 737-400s.

At Delta we have been adding MD90, but we've been parking DC-9s. The MD90 can carry a heck of a lot more pax then even the biggest 9. With reduced capacity that means fewer pilots required, pilot neutral for modest capacity growth...

As announced, our big 737-900 order is also net zero for the fleet count.

Some say, we might not park all of the 757, or that the mythical 717 will be added to the fleet. All we know is that those are rumors and the fact the Delta carrier adding jets and pilots is called the Eskimo.

Cheers
George

Q33 Bus/E-Train to World Trade Center, $2.25
walk two blocks
Path Train to Newark Penn Station, $1.75
62 Bus to Newark/Liberty Airport, $1.50

You are already within two hours travel to LGA and JFK
This works
Operates twenty-four/seven
Takes two and one half hours
Total $5.50

Includes a tour of downtown Newark.
Not many other pilots to talk with though.

But don't the young FAs fly mostly out of EWR?

(1) Getting EWR off the list of NYC airports might be worth a comment on the contract survey. Make C.S. figure out how to get you across the river.

(2) As a shrinking, stagnating, outsourcing airline there are just some things that result in asking the magic 8 ball, "is that worth it" ?

Noted that loyalty is reciprocated. Hey, maybe management would have better luck getting one of their preferred operators for "Delta" flying to cover that trip.

Straight out of the SWAPA handbook.

SWAPA considers our Duty and Trip Rigs to be the strongest in the industry, as they protect pilot productivity and efficiency.
• Minimum Daily guarantee is 6.5 TFP; Ex., a 3-day trip pays a minimum of 19.5 TFP .
• Duty hour rig is .74 TFP per hour, minimum.
• Reserve guarantee is 90 TFP per month; but actual months pay average around 105 TFP .
• Reserves are allowed to pick-up extra flying.
• Holidays pay 150 percent.
• Open Time trips pay up to 150 percent.

Please take note here....THREE day trip in example....not four.

and remember 1 tfp = 1.13 hrs. so 6.5 tfp per day is actually a 7.345 min day.

That sounds about right. I saw a junior SWA FO's 4 day trip and it was worth 29.5 trips. Coming from a DC-9 guy, it was totally easy. Two of the four days had 3 legs. One day had 4 legs. And one day in the middle of the trip even had 2 legs!

I think he said a 12 year FO makes $190 a trip. Cha ching -- Fire bell please.
