....the age old playbooks of failed management teams that consistently run great airlines into the ground...
CEO: "We're in a bad mess. Get me the Age Old Playbook."
Flunky: "Here it is, Sir." (blows dust off cover)
CEO: "Hmmm...the trusty #25Z double-reverse will do nicely."
Flunky: "But Sir, that one always leads to a disaster!"
CEO: "For whom? Not us, Har Har!"
Flunky: "Oh, I get it! Then your successor will be in the mess."
CEO: "Not if he follows the Age Old Playbook."

We'd be lucky to get that, I guess we could give up scope or something. Really I think getting everyone keyed up for furloughs is wise especially given the pending retirements, additional MD-90s, wishy wash plans for the DC-9, 100 new 739s and an unknown situation with AMR in chapter 11.

Who does this guy work for again?

Yeah I mean we have so few widebodies by comparison that it actually makes financial sense for the majority of the pilot group to sell the capital of those jobs in exchange for things that benefit the fat part of the list.

Yes, sometimes one has to

in order to get the

to come on.

Hey all, just stayed at the short layover hotel at DCA and used my credit card for my meal at the bar and discovered some company called Vocus... Cloud-based Marketing and PR Software - Vocus charged $869 to my credit card that same day. This company is based in the area. Watch your statements.

Any shady "trip parking" takes place after the bid is awarded, and thus, should not affect manning. Or am I missing something?

Reserve utilization.

Low historic reserve utilization means the required reserves are lower. Lower required reserves means less people are required. Less people required means less people. Less people means more stagnation.

But the reason we had to go to the board in the first place was that Sawp with the Pot had become completely useless due to the abuse of Reserves Required formulas by the company. So the unintended consequence of having a poor system to swap with open time, has been to allow pilots to fly much, much (much) more than max pick-up.

A good Swap with the Pot, with rational restrictions, would keep everyone honest at or below max pick-up, and wouldn't allow those that whaure for the flying to add insult to injury by trashing the staffing.

I know this very idea infuriates a bunch of people, but at some point in your career, you've got to look around, realize your friends are turning tricks, with white stuff on their nose, and you've got to wonder if it wouldn't be better if we could get our dignity (and our staffing) back.

No no no!

This is the "Private Hershnickelfritz took an extra danish in the chow line! Everybody has to do push ups" approach.

Relatively simple modifications to the rules would fix the trip parking issue.
