EMB-175 Cockpit in the ATL.
Looks like 4 open MEL items on this aircraft? (orange stickers under the standby instrument - maybe I'm wrong) Wonder how top notch the MX is over there?

I know my regional routinely flew around with multiple open writeups until the last minute. We weren't even the worst - I flew on Mesa once from ORD to SBN (on a DH) and they couldn't even pressurize the cabin due to the combination of deferrals. Not a big deal, except it was WINTER and we all froze in the back.

That photo is not a Compass aircraft.

Not going to argue the first edit, but the second needs to be a "growth" airplane order, not just replacement. Preferably one that has growth in the international sector. Psst, Asia.

Correct, places like OH make you pay 5%, but if I were the type that did this I would be claiming residency in TX.

Also, I am very aware of how the US government treats Expats. My family is full of them.

These days the ugly business of selling junior members' jobs is done out of sight.

I have much higher level of confidence in our current Reps than their predecessors. It is unfortunate that this MEC must now pay for others' representational malfeasance.
Helicopters aside

I totally disagreed with the action, and saw it as a limited opportunity to force the section 1 limits down and recapture flying if we would have decided on that path. Fact is the MEC did one thing that most people miss; they went out of their way to remove any conflict within the MEC or ALPA structure representing the CPS pilots and the DAL pilots. Going forward the way it was structured, all of these conflicts many people speak of would have held water since the attorneys assigned to DAL would have been working for the CPS pilots as well. In is logical to submit that at some point our wants and goals may have diverged if the lists and contracts would have remained separate.

The other option that many of the pilots favored was folding the CPS pilots in and that would have resolved the conflict as well. A few want to point out that this would have left pilots without jets, but the fact is this pilot group expected the RJ limits to be pulled down as well, removing that possibility.

Outsourcing to regionals costs more because contracts often require the Major to pay for fuel, gates, mx, training costs, etc. This makes the contract expensive.

A simple codeshare does not cost those things. Outsourcing to Volaris saves SWA $$$. Just like how they outsource their heavy MX to San Salvador. They don't need to spend money on route authority, gates, gate agents, or ground personnel. They don't even have to pay outsourced ground handling, because it isn't their flight.
OK, you've adequately explained how this code share is different than our DCI contracts, and that it might be saving SWA money. But it doesn't address the time problem associated with getting your own route authority and gates, etc. If SWA is still using this code share and not their own equipment in another year or two, then you'll be right. My bet is that they won't. We'll see.

I tend to agree with you. I'm just making a point that there is something to be said for the bird in the hand, and right now and for the forseeable future, they will have better compensation elsewhere.

I still think their decisions should at a minimum spur us to take an honest account of the value of a career at Delta as compared to other options.

I'm betting on Delta in the long haul... But that's the problem. This career shouldn't be one huge bet.

Day 1: MSP-MDW-MSP-BZN. 15 hour overnight in Bozeman eating free hotwings and drinking $3 Moose Drool.
Day 2: BZN-SLC-SNA. Done by 9:30am, 20 hour overnight in sunny Orange County CA.
Day 3: SNA-SLC-YVR. In by 1pm, 17 hours in Vancouver BC hanging out at the Flying Beaver.
Day 4: YVR-MSP-ORD-MSP. Back in time for most commuters to catch their ride home. That 1200nm leg from YVR to MSP is sure "regional," eh?

But hey, DALPA has no interest in recapturing this flying. Really, what mainline pilot would want to lower themselves to this??
I have to admit that this post really p****d me off. But I hope you keep sending these every once in a while. It's good for you to illustrate to us just how bad this outsourcing is getting.

I would not use World as an example as to where to bail to. A few foreign carriers that have growth for the next decade, or FDX and possibly SWA. FDX and SWA have their own issues coming; FDX with unmanned drones carrying cargo(yes its coming) and cabotage, and SWA with the fact that they are at the top and no one is jumping over them, yet.

Oh and apparently ATL and MIA are on the short list of American cities that EK will be flying to. Wonder how our DXB flights will fare once that happens.

That's correct. NWALPA did indeed negotiate this. I think it was an attempt to do the right thing. After we'd failed time and time again to reverse our outsourcing at NWA, we went with the Compass experiment which allowed direct flow through to NWA mainline. My opinion is that it was a noble attempt at bringing all flying back in house.

DALPA had a significantly different opinion of what we were doing however, and scuttled the deal. How's that working out for us now shiznit? I'll wait while you call DALPA to get the response they want you to state.
