The Southwest pilots are making a lot more money than us. There's no denying that. I just can't bring myself to start over at Southwest. I keep thinking of the Southwest pilots that went to United in 1999-2000 when United was making a lot more money. I keep thinking that someday we'll be the highest paid airline pilots in the country again. Hopefully sooner rather than later. I just wish we would stop outsourcing everything and stop shrinking. Shrinking wouldn't even bother me if airlines like Alaska, Jetblue, Virgin, etc. weren't expanding. As we shrink, other airlines are filling the void. We are just shrinking faster than they can fill the void right now. This will catch up to us eventually.
I also have no desire to leave the United States. I like it here.

330 Full Days
Generally, to meet the physical presence test, you must be physically present in a foreign country or countries for at least 330 full days during the 12-month period.
However, the minimum time requirement can be waived if you must leave a foreign country because of war, civil unrest, or similar adverse conditions in that country.
You go to Emirates with the wife and kids, and you're living happily in Dubai. You're on a trip and while you're somewhere over the Atlantic on your way from Europe to JFK, the military (or Al Queda, or disgruntled college students, or whoever) decide to oust the UAE Royal Family.
So the Royals who own your airline flee the country and they insist their assets (like the aircraft you just landed in JFK) must not return to Dubai to avoid seizure. So now you're back in the USA without a way to get back to your family in Dubai, and the last you heard from them was a voicemail that they were going to try to make it 18 miles to the US Embassy on foot because their driver took off, and the cellphones don't work anymore.
And then you go to stay at your brother's house in Dallas and wait. For a month.
So in this case, you won't have the full US Tax Liability even though you wind up spending less than 330 days on foreign soil?
Are you crazy?
Our management types that read this board need to realize that if they refuse to restore a large portion of this PWA, places like EK will see DAL pilots applying to leave this stagnated career.
These contract jobs and places like EK and their total pilot package need to be where we are aiming.
FWIW, a EK pilot pay 60 bucks a month for medical for his spouse. It is full coverage. No deductible etc. These guys do nothing cheap, and are making 2 bln a year. The only break they are getting is that they do not pay landing fees in the UAE. They buy their jet A from Singapore. I want to start looking at these compensation packages.

Since every working group at the airline got DOH, but the pilots have a 1987 pilot at 5% and a 1986 pilot at 30%. Lets see how this works when we merge with a airline like Jetblue. Will a 11 year JB pilot be senior to a DAL pilot with 35 years since he is at a higher relative seniority?

I flew my first 2 reserve days in January, then I didn't fly again. In February under new system, I flew my first 9 days. Now I probably won't fly again as I'm in bucket 2. I'd say that's a significant change. I am now going to avoid reserve at all cost. Unfortunately, I won't be senior enough to do that for about 3-4 years unless I bid NYC.

I have to commute up on my days off for all 3 trips. That gives me 15 days off. The only reason I have that is over 50 pilots senior to me bid reserve intentionally.
How so? I am on reserve just about every month. I am in an over-staffed category. Hardly anyone on reserve with weekends off was flying more than 4 days.
Hockey,
You must be bummed - we all know how much you love the new reserve system.
