Anyway to check in advance and see if a flight will be payload optimized? A Delta buddy of mine and his wife are going to one of those places that gets nailed by it all of the time and they don't want to get stuck out.

Great quote in an interview with the maker of GoodReader:

A little less than two years ago we started a project to write a suite of useful iPhone apps for pilots. The project was sponsored by a certain airplane manufacturer...So we figured that the first thing to do is to write a PDF reader that could handle huge PDF files, because pilots always have to read technical manuals, maps, various references, majority of which are available in PDF form...Then financial crisis changed the way how large and small companies spend their money, and the sponsorship from the airplane manufacturer was cut off. GoodReader was something like 50% ready at that time. We decided to finish it and to release as a general productivity app, just to see how things would go with it...

That being said, I am one who thinks the alternative could possibly be better in the long run, but for now have resolved to stay with who I have. They have my full support; there is unity. But that doesn't mean if I'm taken for granted I won't look elsewhere. The argument that my consideration of other options is somehow showing a lack of support or reflects a lack of unity is insulting and annoys me to no end. They need to show me they deserve my business.

I've never met RA in person or even heard him speak. However 100% of the F-NWA pilots I've talked with who have met him, and talked with him, say he is a very intelligent man who does not tolerate being BS'ed.
With that background I would be shocked if he thought he was going to get out of Contract 2012 with a small increase in pilot costs. I strongly suspect he knows that the major reason why the DAL-NWA merger went so smoothly is because of the cooperation of the pilot group. Further, he knows that same group of people expect significant pay/work rule/ benefit increases in their next contract.
Our day-to-day operation is running pretty smoothly, and again that's largely because of the cooperation of the pilot group. If Delta management comes in with a low ball offer (IMHO) that will signal the end of Lee Moak's much touted "Proactive Engagement" philosophy.
That approach to doing business with Delta is based on (among other things) mutual respect. It's just my opinion, but a low ball offer is anything but a sign of respect on the part of management.

Satch,
In my eyes, mgt has already signaled the end of this era. With the placement of a/c at LGA and the willingness to remove the rest facility on the 330's, they have illustrated once again they do NOT care about us or our opinions, only what they can get us to work for. Nothing personal it's just business.

It depends on how much flying we do. ... Delta Air Lines has the same network management as Comair. ... any questions?

On another note.
I personally don't believe there will ever be a pilot shortage, but Delta will certainly have problems with the limitation presented by training capacity. At what point will they realize they need to prepare for these challenges?
I know they will implement seat locks on future new hires. Won't further action be required to alleviate the future strain?
Perhaps, this is an issue we need to be thinking about in our contract negotiations. Historically, most airlines react to problems rather than prevent them and then look to the pilots for relief.

And they do this because history has proven this works for them.
They KNOW the Pilots will ALWAYS step up, snap to attention, turn around smartly, and bend over.
