Although I know there are many factors effecting a choice like this, I believe that's a really bad move considering the demographics of Delta Compared to Southwest/Airtran. In twelve years there will be around 800 of us facing mandatory retirement each year. Like changing lines in the grocery store.... You may get in line behind someone trying to cash a check from Katmandu.....
I was thinking it was like buying last year's best performing stock on the NASDAQ. SWA has (in the opinion of many) been the place to be for the past several years but it sure looks like their glory days are coming to an end. |

If your perspective is "time value of money" then the choice to leave is understandable. I applaud those leaving and wish them well. |

When I look at SWA today, it reminds me a lot of Delta circa 1991. They have a new Leader, and just pulled a merger. DL had Mo'Ron, and bought Pan Am. Then Sadam invaded Kuwait, I don't have to tell most of you what happened next...
Today Isreal is talking about putting a smack down on Iran and we may get dragged into it. Oh, and gas prices are going up, wayyy up, just like 1991. So...is there any reason to think the short term (5 years is short term to me) outcome won't be the same over the next 5 years for SWA, as it was for DL, 1991-1996? Oh, and Kelly is already talking about being 'cost competitive', while their biggest neighbor is in Bankruptcy...what does that tell you? |

Coupled with no real growth for awhile... |

This company has had the luxury of everyone sticking around way too long in my eyes and that has been used against us so I for one applaud those decisions of others who have found greener pastures elsewhere, something which is getting easier to do these days.

We may find ourselves in the right place at the right time. Hope you're enjoying flying the magic! Thinking about bidding the ATLDC9A. Just need to ask one of those guys how they find the airport? Hope you're doing great! TC |
