I agree, TC...

I was thinking it was like buying last year's best performing stock on the NASDAQ.

SWA has (in the opinion of many) been the place to be for the past several years but it sure looks like their glory days are coming to an end.

If your primary focus is be a CA then I would agree.

If your perspective is "time value of money" then the choice to leave is understandable.

I applaud those leaving and wish them well.

When I look at SWA today, it reminds me a lot of Delta circa 1991. They have a new Leader, and just pulled a merger. DL had Mo'Ron, and bought Pan Am. Then Sadam invaded Kuwait, I don't have to tell most of you what happened next...

Today Isreal is talking about putting a smack down on Iran and we may get dragged into it. Oh, and gas prices are going up, wayyy up, just like 1991.

So...is there any reason to think the short term (5 years is short term to me) outcome won't be the same over the next 5 years for SWA, as it was for DL, 1991-1996?

Oh, and Kelly is already talking about being 'cost competitive', while their biggest neighbor is in Bankruptcy...what does that tell you?

It's just my honest opinion... and you know what they say about opinions.. Actually I couldn't care less.

Hey Wastch,

Better times than 2005! We may find ourselves in the right place at the right time. Hope you're enjoying flying the magic!

Thinking about bidding the ATLDC9A. Just need to ask one of those guys how they find the airport? Hope you're doing great!

The middle part of your post is the one that makes the most sense.. time value of money. I wish we at DAL could get a clue about that... I think we will, but it will take awhile.. so much for the "time" part....

Perhaps...going to SWA is not the choice that I would make, but I have different priorities. Really, the fact that someone would leave DAL for SWA *despite* their impending lack of growth and 20 year upgrades is even more d@mning. I guess we'll know what the right choice was about 30 years from now. In the meantime, I'd like to see DAL pilots score a contract so good that only a complete moron would jump ship for SWA or any other airline. Under status quo, you'll continue to lose good people to places like SWA, FedEx, etc.
