Career earnings for a 20 year Delta pilot upgrading to Captain at year 10-$2,191,800. I started the Delta F.O. in the lowest paying equipment and moved to the next higher paying equipment every 2 years, and continued this progression at the 10 year switch to Captain pay rates. That is a $365,544 over the 20 year period. I would take that bet all day. Of course many will say the Delta rates will go up and the SWA rates will go down, but that is a gamble most betting folks would be willing to take. The SWA number is for minimum guarantee only. I will not speculate as to what each individual pilot will gross, but most pilots at SWA (including me) go well beyond guarantee on every paycheck. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
The lesson to be learned is that there are no birds. No one will know what they got until after they retired. If you don't believe me, ask any United pilot who got hired in the mid-to late 90's. Personally, I wouldn't go to the bottom of any airline that has been on the top of the heap for a while. The exposure is too great and the opportunity to get some cushion is too small. |
I wonder when the pins finally going to be pulled on the CVG grenade?
That should be a fun bid as well. I'm seriously thinking about ATL DC9 just to bite the bullet and take the free move down to the promised land. |

I find it interesting that the AE didn't go as briefed in the roadshows, ie there were no pull down in Whale and 777 specifically or super premium widebodies in general. I wonder what level (Richard or lower?) looked at it and figured the training events were too expensive.
I'm thinking there is much more to the story.......but I'll doubt we'll ever really know. Ferd Ferd; I think you got the majority of the reason: Training costs. 744B and 777B can already hold M88/90A, so why would they displace directly to it. Instead you'd have a downward training cascade as the guy above you bumps you. Additionally, it the crew resources news, they said they wanted to shrink ATL 777 and grow DTW 777. Remember, when you take off from ATL to go to asia, 2 hours later you're over DTW. That is a lot of credit to chop off each rotation (approx 3-4 hrs). Now back to "her honorable Mrs sucking hatch blower." "What do they want me to do? Cook?" |

Don't forget the pesky poorly attached tails and you're not actually in control of the airplane.

In good scope news- there is more upgauging to mainline going on. I just found FAY overnights in the 320 April bid pack. I didn't even know where that was! (Fayetteville, NC) Add this to all the TUL, OKC, OMA, ROC and others being upgauged and that is a good trend vector. |

Hey Carl, your love affair with SWA is second only to your love affair with DPA. Of course in your mind he made the right decision. Whatever makes you feel better. Maybe it WAS a smart move for him.. maybe he lives in a SWA base, and will be able to drive to work.. and maybe he loves throwing gear on a 737... who knows? I still don't care.. that was all I said. But just stop with the propaganda for once.. please.... Your badmouthing DAL at every opportuniuty is just getting old. We get it.. DAL sucks.. NWA was a far better airline... quack quack quack. I don't agree with your premise that DAL will be a training ground. I think you are wrong. Time will tell. Have a wonderful Delta Day.. I am out of this ridiculous argument.
We will know it is hurting when the bean counters start some sort of training bond for our new hires. That time isn't here, yet. But, I could see it happening in the foreseeable future. Simply put, we are no longer first choice for a lot of people. It has everything to do with compensation rather than advancement. |

Right seat of the A320 v. 73N.
Anybody got experience in both that can list some strengths and weaknesses? Thanks. |

It's to ensure that you understand that Gaston is in control and not you.
