As far as that DC-9, apparently one had an engine deposit its innards all over one of the inboard runways at ATL yesterday. Yowza.

80, those that don't; and the number is rising, just don't offer. They don't do anything but read the news of their phone. As for the winds, load them at TOC if you can't get em done.

Never sweat the small stuff. As Sink is pointing out, just nod and do your job. CRM is a two way street and by leg three or four, over half that wouldn't do, and we go on our way.

As for the 9, yep, it left baby engine parts all over the runway, and quite a mess to pick up.

I'm offended!

Ok, I'm offended that I didn't write it.

I think there are things that are "nice" and good leadership that will naturally survive a merger. As far as I can tell, Capts doing some walkarounds was a Western thing that worked it's self into the the old Delta tradition. Great

As New said, different ways of doing things drove the way we did stuff and some of those ways will die hard. Or as Sink said, an excuse for some (on both sides) to be lazy. But, in time good things will survive and become the way things are done "at the new Delta".

As far as the Capt always taking second break, again just a difference in corporate philosophy. NWA didn't trust FOs and they wanted a fully rested Capt in his chair for the Dept and Arrival, so second break. It will die as the old guys go away as the Delta way is easier (IMHO)........except when it's the Capts leg, then I like staggering out of the bunk after 3rd break and just hoping in the jumpseat for landing.

What's going to be fun is defending the way the "new" Delta does it from the whiners we merge with next

I just don't get why this preflight thing is such a big deal. As a southie, I've always shared preflights with the Captain unless something special was going on that required his attention or we broke the 50/50 barrier. As one of two of the first south FO's to go into a north base on a north aircraft, I was more than happy to do tbe preflights. I still like walking around the ramp after 32 years of flying. It was just a cultural difference between north and south, no better, no worse.

Two things that come to mind are; 1) RHIP! Rank has its priviledges! And 2) we have so much else going on, why waste our energy on this! Get over it! Support your Captain. By keeping him out of the SH--, you stay out of the SH--! Get the job done and stay out of the Chief Pilots Office and tbe paper. For those of us that are still FO's, it won't be long before you're sitting in the Captain seat taking care of some BS and asking the FO to take care of the walk around.

To quote tsquare "geeze!" or in other words, find something worthwhile to Bi--- about!

Also, as FOs we rotated between ourselves so when you came off 3rd break, you were done and just sat in the jumpseat vs waking up and working. Not wrong, just different and it will die as the old guys go away as the Delta way is easier (IMHO)........except when it's the Capts leg, then I like staggering out of the bunk after 3rd break and just hoping in the jumpseat for landing.

Superpilot indeed.
Well played sir

Gotcha. Thanks. That actually makes sense since we don't have ETOPS 737's and a 737 Guam based was already considered.

I really have no clue as to why it is such a big deal to do a walk around...With that I have flown with at least a dozen or so north CA's that do the walk around when it was my leg.
