UAL guy here just curious how senior is WB F/O over there? Any base.

 

New hires can hold WBs in ATL, NYC, and DTW at a minimum. That is if you consider the 757/767 to be a WB category!

 

I was looking for 777 and A330 and 747.

The rare times I get to touch the 764 I do consider that a WB but only because I don't have to manually slide my seat forward.

 

I saw the past class had an all NYC drop. Will there still be ATL options in the next few months? Any chance for new hires on the ER out of ATL?

 

Anything is possible, but before offering a position to a new class, it must first be offered to everybody else. I would guess a good % of the 200+ who have been assigned NYC in the past 3 months want out.

 

I think the last 2 classes were all NYC.

That doesn't mean anything though. Class drops vary wildly. Just based on the needs of the company and capacity of the training department, at that exact second in time. They've done this many times in the past. Some classes in 07-08 were 100% NYC ER, while the class after had none. 2010 classed had few to no ER slots go to new hires. Even now they need people everywhere but their priority is keeping all the separate pipelines full while doing their best to send each fleet and base the pilots they need.

Direct ATL7ERB on the new hire bid is possible but not likely. I'd give it about a 20-30% chance of there being any openings in any given class. Then it depends on your SSN and what other people want, even if some were available. It really doesn't matter though, as even if you don't get it right away, if you can get any ER slot anywhere, you'll likely be able to transfer with a month or three in your original base. If you don't get an ER, it'll of course be one year for the seat lock, but you'll likely be able to get into ATL almost immediately anyway.

 

Gloopy thanks for the quick response. I would take anything to ATL if I'm fortunate enough to get picked up. I was curious about the ER as my current airline it went to new hires for a few months out of the past year.

 

I'm excitedly waiting for a class date and starting to put together a crib sheet of what aircraft to choose, should I have a choice.

My only real priority is getting based out of ATL as quickly as possible. Then of course quality of trips and QOL.

Advice?

 

Just got hired by big d a few weeks ago and expecting indoc in Feb. Probably the happiest dude on earth, next to the other 966 who have won the career lotto in 2014.

Questions for the experienced masses:
I live 45 minutes from DTW, so I'm hoping to select an aircraft that I can hold a line on in DTW quickly. My last 4 SSN is pretty high, so I think I'll have my pick. What aircraft will get me a line number quickest in DTW? Can I hold a 73N / 320 / ER line within the first year? Is there something to be said for snagging a 73N spot and commuting to NYC to hold a decent line earlier?

 

Quickest to hold a line in DTW might be the 73 if it continues to grow. The ER in DTW is shrinking. The 320 is staffed properly so I guess it won't be easy to hold a line. The 717 is also staffed properly in DTW.
If you live within 45 minutes Reserve is not bad at all and in most categories senior
If you must have a line 73, 717 or 320 in NYC are the best but a lot of NY trips have early report and late release
