If you live within 45 minutes Reserve is not bad at all and in most categories senior
If you must have a line 73, 717 or 320 in NYC are the best but a lot of NY trips have early report and late release
Thanks bohicagain, great gouge!

Questions for the experienced masses:
I live 45 minutes from DTW, so I'm hoping to select an aircraft that I can hold a line on in DTW quickly. My last 4 SSN is pretty high, so I think I'll have my pick. What aircraft will get me a line number quickest in DTW? Can I hold a 73N / 320 / ER line within the first year? Is there something to be said for snagging a 73N spot and commuting to NYC to hold a decent line earlier?
Which plane is fastest to a line for DTW in the future is anyone's guess, but 737 and 717 look the most likely. Both are growing, but argueably the 717 isn't growing in DTW. However it is the junior equipment, so it will likely see more attrition and that provides the same effect. If you live fairly close to the airport, I'd strongly recommend bidding anything that can get you into DTW on your initial bid and avoiding having to commute.

NYC does usually allow you to buff your relative seniority, but rarely enough to compensate for the time cost hassle and stress of commuting. Life is way simpler and better with a short drive to work than commuting on probation to a 3 airport operation that falls apart whenever there is weather going on anywhere in the galaxy.

What Gloopy said. Bid the highest-paying seat in DTW. Who cares if you're on reserve? When you get to Year 2 pay you'll hold a line and won't have to go through a school again.

Makes perfect sense. I think 73N probably is the best bet with the pay, potential to hold a DTW line quick and probably some decent trips too.

Thanks everyone.

Based on the last AE projected category lists, the most junior 777 B will be at 73% on the seniority list and will be DTW based. The junior ATL based 777 B will be at 65%. The most junior 330 B will be at 78% and will be SEA based.

Newbie question. Are those percentages from the top of the list or from the bottom? I'm guessing from the top? About when would a 73% seniority guy have been hired?

Oct of 1998 or Aug of 2000 depending on pre-merger north or south.

Correct, it's from the top. The DOH for a percentage on the list varies for pilots hired prior to the NWA/Delta merger depending on the pilot's pre-merger airline and really isn't a good measuring stick at this point. The reference you need is what seniority number the pilot is. The junior 777 FO (excluding instructors) is currently #9014.

If you are a newbie, all you need to do is move up 3000 numbers and you might be able to hold it.

LAX also had unfilled 737 Spots.

Scoop
Does that mean realistic for a newhire? How long for a newhire to get LAX?
