Hello, all. Hired last week. Ridiculously excited. Thanks for all of the awesome information on here, by the way. Seems like there is a lot of positive information passing in this thread vs others. From the old and new guys!

Being an active duty Marine and barely even know what you mean when you say bid and AE, what do you recommend as a game plan going into INDOC.

-Living in San Diego now
-Will move to first base to avoid commuting
-Will start up training Feb/Mar
-Have A 25xx last four (boo)
-Ultimate goal is to get SEA int'l, but based on last 4 expect a 71 or 88 out of class.

Thx!

I do sit SC at home. Can't control traffic. I do give myself 4 hours when I have a trip.

FTS,
I readback: you're in SOCAL, traffic sucks to LAX, and the drive can be as long as some commutes....? Sounds like living in San Diego and basing from LAX or SEA would be about the same. Or did I totally misread? Hahaha

I'm trying to put together a gameplan for indoc. I expect assignment by leftovers: 717 or 88 out of NYC....but just in case I have a choice...

What base/aircraft should I request given my circumstances and ultimate goal?

FlyMarine, I live in WA and described my commute to SEA.
My 2 cents: I'm lazy and would want to go through training as few times as possible. So I'd pick ER if able, even NYC. The ER gives you much flexibility on either coast in due time. And with your training in the spring, you just might be surprised as they man for the summer. I wouldn't move right away if your goal is to be out West. Let the first year shake out and see how our growth changes your options.

Aha! See? Freaking new guys. Out to lunch. Hahaha

If I'm not told 717/88 NYC, I'll go ER looking for the eventual txfr to SEA/LAX.

Thanks for clarifying!

ER or the 73N. Guys have been given SLC and LAX 73N during indoc (not initially award, but through an AE) or within a few weeks of finishing indoc. With the opening of the SEA 73 base and the growth on the 73, it may be a good option going forward.

Got it: ER, 73, work back west. I know as bottom 20 / 60 it's not likely....but just in case.

Thx again!

I would go 73, ER, 320, 717, 88. I think you will get back west sooner on the 73N.

Also, you never really know how your SSN will work for you. It may be a 2xxx but what if everyone else is a 2xxx, or 1xxx.... So just bid what makes you happy. Things are moving incredibly fast.
