Delta bases

Ditto from Draper..SLC is a GREAT base...lived here 14 yrs, non-LDS, 8 yr old girl and 10 yr old boy. We were a little anxious moving here from California but have had nothing but good experiences. Lots of friends on both sides of the aisle, good schools, and 25 mins to AltaBird or the employee parking lot.
Draper, Suncrest, and Alpine are definitely worth a look before making your final decision. I know a couple of guys who moved down from Park City to be close to Juan Diego Catholic HS in Draper. Lots of opportunities and choices regardless of religious affiliation and/or price range.
Good Luck..and Welcome Aboard!

Been in N Ogden for 18 months, non-traditional non-LDS family here....we've been welcomed with open arms. Our kids haven't had any issues at school or making friends. Very family oriented, patriotic quiet neighborhood and great friendly neighbors. Very decent cost if living, affordable housing, good school, non-existent crime and world class recreation year round. 45 min to work = Greenslip availability. Any questions PM me.

I lived in Utah for 10 years. It's a great place overall. Keep in mind that at a young age your kids will do fine. It's high school where issues will come up. Check if the high school you kids will attend has a ward building within walking distance of the school. If it does then you will have problems. All after school activities will center around the ward. Also keep in mind that the first few years it will be assumed you can be converted. If you choose not to convert then attitudes can and will change.
As far as I know there is one day a week that teenage kids do after school activities in the "ward". The other days those building are locked up tight except for Sunday.
Utah is a different animal than a lot of other places due to the LDS culture. If you are a person that feels uncomfortable not being the same as your neighbors, then you may have problems. If you are comfortable with who you are and don't mind having your teenage kids hang out with other teenage kids who have some very high moral standards, you will do fine in Utah. Contrary to what others will say, the people in Utah won't judge you as much as you judge yourself.

Agreed, LIG..
Thanks Sailing, we've heard a lot of stories but haven't had any problems. Now..if I win the SEA 73N lottery, I may have to look at making one last move up to Gig Harbor!
If not, I'll just have to continue to keep a cooler full of Sprite to go along with my wife's Cabo Wabo-Rita's at our neighborhood block parties..!
For newbies looking for a place to settle; every Delta base has its advantages and/or challenges. The good part is that with this wave of hiring, you should have plenty of choices...even for folks trying to get west of the Mississippi!

Lived there for three years (on Raft Island) and spend lots of time sailing up to Victoria, BC and throughout the San Juan Islands. Great place if you don't mind the rain.

I've lived in UT for 30+ years. I love it here. I'm not LDS and my family and I have done well here. We love the skiing, fishing, and the active lifestyle. We live in Syracuse about 30 mins north of the airport. If your family is outdoorsy Utah has so much to offer. My kids are still in elementary so I can't comment on the high school situation. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
