But, but, retirements!

There are already guys at legacies today who weren't around for Age 65 or the 2008-2010 recession. Many started at a regional 2012 and legacy last couple years. They've only seen the good times.

He was a great instructor. He had a great attitude and enjoyed the job. I started out feeling bad for his bad timing but he seemed. Really happy. I agree though, losing 3 years of seniority would suck, but he was pretty confident that at the end of his commitment he would be pretty much guaranteed a job with us.

In late '73 I had the same F/E two months in a row, great guy. A month later I look down and he is slammin. bags. Ask Arnie how that works..... And those were the easy days. I don't think the word "Guaranteed" should ever be used in regard to pilot hiring.

He had already committed to the instructor job, but he said Delta promised him an interview when his 3 year commitment was up.

If you’re qualified, I would think that getting to know the fleet Captains and SLI’s through working for DGS, would be a great way to get a job with Delta. It’ll take at least 3 years for your commitment to end and an opportunity to interview, but if the phone isn’t ringing now, it seems like a great alternative.
Ouch. Sucks for him. Even guys getting hired today are already way behind the wave even with the upcoming retirements. We've already hired 4,000+ in the last 4+ years. Granted all those guys/girls aren't under 30 years old but they are already way behind. I can't imagine being committed to instruct for 3 years with only a promise for an interview.

I agree. Don't wait around for 3 yrs for an interview guarantee. Seniority is everything. Apply and try to get on with any of the legacies as soon as you can.

We still have 5 years of >700 retirements starting in 2021. Way behind would be getting on in the middle of that. Right now you’re merely in suboptimal territory. But yes, the earlier the better.

Way behind, perhaps, in comparison to the other majors?

I got the interview invite last month.

1511 TT
1000+ Turbine PIC (800ish F18 and the rest is T34 and T45)
350+ F18 IP time
75ish hours of TT is Cessna civ time from college

I'm sure there's more to the story (volunteer, college gpa, leadership positions, etc)

This makes me think that the rumors that Delta only hires from 121 and the Military are true. I have 6,000 TT, 4,000 Turbine, 2,000 jet all in 135, and a solid resume. Crickets for 2 years.

Someone please tell me I'm wrong, and the call is coming tomorrow.
