But it goes into the bigger picture of what you mentioned, they're simply the small percentage of tool academy grads that seem to make it certain positions. REGARDLESS of background.

Don't know if he was a LCA, but jumpseating on a 757, first thing out of CA mouth, "so what branch did you fly for?" Needless to say it was a long commute listening to him tell me I didn't learn to fly the "honorable" way... Sorry didn't realize supporting an American business with $50,000 of my money wasn't honorable.

I didn't know mil guys did that with civilians. I guess it's all in which shoes you wear. There's definitely an LCA on the 777 who tries to make mil guys look dumb. Whatever.

I like to hear everyone's story. Especially the civ guys because its a side of aviation I'm not familiar with. The mil guys, to me, have some commonality of experience, but there are some cool civ stories. One of my favorites was a guy flying in Alaska to all these Eskimo reservations. He picks up some dead Eskimo and mid flight the guy sits straight up. That'll get your attention. This is of course the very short story version.

One of the best things a mil guy can do is partner up with a civ guy in training. The fact that your partner has been through 121 school already and can help explain airline philosophy and "whys" will help tremendously. Every new hire knows how to fly, not every new hire has the experience gained from operating in the 121 world.

No one thinks it's an entitlement at all.

I have met FAR more pilots who think because they fly around planes (contract flying at that)... painted in an airlines similar livery add connection etc, that think they are entitled to a job just because of that. Moral of the story? There are guys who think they deserve a job for a myriad of wrong reasons..... it's definitely not limited to anyone in the military.

Followed a Maddog into LGA one time back in '07. The tower asked him if he was going to the MAT. Poor guy had no clue what the tower was asking him, and answered, "No, there is no Matt here."

Tower asked again, "Are you going to the MAT?"

Guy answered, " I don't know what you are asking me. MAT? What's that?"
Before the tower could answer, an older voice answered, that yes, they were going to the MAT.

Same time frame, had another 88 try and cut inside of us at SLC because the capt had extended downwind. Tower told them to follow us and they answered, "If we turn now we can land and be out of that 757s way." Tower tells them, "No, just follow the 757."
Thought the captain was gonna have an aneurysm. When we got to the lounge, he was still sputtering about it. A few minutes later the 88 crew walks in and it turns out that the captain was a friend of his giving IOE. Before the Bossman can say anything, the LCA starts laughing when he sees the red face and says, " I know, I know, I already told him we don't do things like that to each other." Turns out the FO was a newhire Skywest guy and he was too embarrassed to go in the lounge.

So don't worry. Whether you are M or C, you're gonna screw something up. It's only a matter of time. Just be able to laugh at yourself and don't get wrapped around the axle. After all, that is what that friggin light pen test is all about!

I've never encountered any derrigatory civ vs. mil going either direction at DL. I have experienced former military captains (lca and normal line) exclaim many times how impressed they are with civilian types and how much they enjoy flying with them.

I'm sure there are a couple that are less than tactful, but they are exceedingly rare.

I too, have had many great experiences in the Jump with ex mil guys, this was just one example. I should not have fed the Mil vs. Civ argument with my ONE bad experience, because good lord knows we have our fair share of tools in the civ world. . Good luck to all in the coming months.
